Not sure what you mean by that. Did Disney declare that or the fanbase? Because I already consider anything 343 related as non-canon. And anything 343 is just an expensive, shitty fan fiction.
I think he's referring to how Disney killed off the Expanded Universe when they bought Star Wars and then made the sequel trilogy.

Did you completely miss that somehow? That was one of the biggest controversies when they first brought the IP. They declared everything besides the movies non-canon and it caused a big uproar when it happened. George even backed it up by claiming that EU content was never canon in the first place, which always annoyed me because I remember him for instance praising the Knights of the Old Republic games claiming that they were so good he considered them canon himself. Not to mention the times he himself assisted in creating some of that Expanded Universe content, only to basically lie and say none of it ever mattered.

But that's what I'm referring to when I say 343 would have to pull a Disney to save the franchise. Declaring everything besides the bungie games non-canon and starting over completely. But we all know they never will.

The only way this happens is if Microshart somehow goes bankrupt, and the HALO IP got auctioned off to an entirely brand new studio or conglomerate. I wouldn't even trust nu-Bungo with HALO these days.

Nu-Bungie is arguably just as bad, if not worse, than 343. As shitty as the 343 campaigns are, they at least don't have some retarded non-binary frat boy.

As a matter of fact I did. I thought you meant the current Disney cannon. I didn't think about the EU stuff, because at least some of it was pretty good unlike 343's cannon.

Even if 343 threw everything they've done out and started over, there's basically no reason to believe whatever they'd come up with as a replacement would be any better. I know people love to scream "But Bonnie, Frank the Cuck, etc got fired!" but if that CE remake leak is true... then nothing has changed and they're just as terminally retarded as before.

343 is diseased and unless the franchise is given to another studio, nothing is going to change. Much like Disney Star Wars, it's just going to be endless raping of a destroyed corpse as more and more of its fanbase gets fed up and walks away.

...yet.

Oh I don't doubt that. I'm simply saying that's the only chance they have. No matter how small it would be.

A big issue i have with so many halo mods is that it feels like they just mush everything from every fucking halo game into one and call it day, it doesn't make for a good experience it's just a bloated mess full of assets that clash with each other and the game itself
Kat's halo 3 campaign and ruby's rebalance are perfect examples of overhaul mods done right, they change enough to make the experience different but also enough to keep it the same and fun without adding every weapon and enemy from every other halo game
annoys me because that sort of shit is so common in halo mods where they think more= good with no regard of how it may impact the experience or if it clashes with the style and it results in a inconsistent, unblanaced, and weird mess

I know what you mean. Like for instance I've seen Halo 3 mods that literally just port Halo Reach weapons into the game and it clashes so bad with the game's art style. I know it's faggy to get annoyed by shit like that but it really burns my ass.

And the more=good approach is also pretty annoying. Like mods that add extra weapons that are so similar to already existing weapons there's really no point. I mean fuck, part of why they originally removed the Assault Rifle in Halo 2 was because it was so similar to the SMG. They probably only brought it back in Halo 3 because people considered it iconic. I think they changed the stats to make them slightly more distinct gameplay wise? Though obviously you could always dual wield the SMG unlike the AR but, that's besides the point.

I fucking hate it, when mods do that shit. Like the brutal Halo mod adds the digsite assault rifle to the game for basically no reason because dual wielding isn't a thing in Halo 1 and it's so fucking similar to the Assault Rifle anyway it's literally pointless and they don't even use the same ammo making it more annoying.

On the off chance there's somehow any Halo modders reading this shit. Please do not add redundant weapons to your mods, that shit is fucking retarded. Big McThankies from McSpankies.

My least favorite thing about CE: Anniversary graphics wise was the Marines. Like how do you fuck up something as simple as this:

Answer: tacticool and overdesign it. Thanks Reach!

I know we're talking about mods, but it really shows how the clash between early and later Bungie Halo was a huge divide, and mostly in a shitty way.

I'm gonna be real with you chief. I actually liked Reach's art style a lot. In fact hell I'd consider it the peak in terms of appearance for Halo.
Then 343 just completely fucked it up. (Seriously like god the modern Spartan armor from Halo 4 onwards looks so fucking retarded.)

I get WHY they did it though, obviously for continuity with Halo: Reach since canonically the Pillar of Autumn just left Reach like 5 minutes ago so it would be weird for all of their armor to suddenly be different. Plus Halo: Reach very recently came out when Anniversary released so it's what most people would have expected them to look like.

Like honestly, I don't entirely get the hate for Halo 1 and 2 Anniversary. Halo 2 Anniversary obviously did a better job than 1 but I feel like a lot of complaints people made about Halo 1 A were kind of autistic.

I won't forgive them butchering 343 Guilty Spark though. The swamp and shit is fine but they royally fucked up the atmosphere inside the facility. But that's about my only genuine non-nitpicky complaint with Anniversary. Beyond that I felt like it did a decent job of what it was supposed to do.

EDIT: Scratch that actually, my second genuine complaint would be I wish they did a better job of matching some of the new models to the original hitboxes because it can be mildly annoying in the early levels where a lot of your cover is trees which are the worst example of this.

We can agree to disagree, but I get your point. I think the artstyle of CE was so different compared to what Halo became was that compared to 2, which I do like the anniversary for, that it just didn’t gell as well. I’m partial to the early, crunchy version of Halo, so bias is there. My biggest problem with Reach was reading the book and then the game changed or messed up things more than anything else. Dumb complaint, but its one I’ll die on.

To be fair I think there was some behind the scenes stuff for why that happened. Apparently the old books were purely made because of some deal with Microsoft and Bungie themselves had no involvement with them. So, them making Halo: Reach was them sort've reclaiming the canon? I guess???
Allegedly they weren't fans of them.

That's the thing, it doesn't matter if another studio gets a shot at the Halo franchise, it is still a Microsoft product so it will be as pozzed as the stuff made by 343.
Just look at the other Microsoft studios, none of them have been able to ship a good game.

I believe the ODST's first showed up in the novels and Bungie was initially caught completely off-guard by their addition.

Hey, new episode of CRASH just dropped. Think this is an appropriate thread as any, so I am dropping it here.

Regarding the 343 stuff, don't hold your breath. I have yet to see *any* franchise that fall under the influence of outsiders ever recover, save in the rare event when the original creators managed to get their hands on it again.

As far as Halo is concerned, I'm just done with the franchise. I know a walking corpse when I see one, and Halo is just coasting on the fumes it has left till it runs dry. After that, it'll be one more corpse in a grave of many. If you ask me, unironically, look for the fanfic stuff. There's gotta be something out there that's worth a read. God knows some of it treats Halo a far sight better than 343 ever will.

Oh, Bungie must have hated them. Far as I know, Bungie had a hate boner for anything that was not personally made by them. They absolutely loathed Halo Wars, to put forth an example, doing their utmost to sabotage it.

On one hand, I kind of get it. But at the same time sounds pretty faggy.
Plus, Halo Wars was cool. I guess, tbh I'm not really an RTS guy so I dunno maybe it fucking sucks. But I thought it was neat since it was kind of a glimpse into what Halo originally could have become.

Going out of their way to sabotage the game just sounds petty and gay.

Mmm. It is what it is. I presume if such drama were to leak nowadays, there'd be vulture all over Bungie eating them alive for that juicy drama. I can't say I sympathize with the sentiment, but Ensemble Studios did god for what was officially their last game before shuttering. Prior to that, they developed the Age of Empire and Mythology series, the latter of which was a great part of my childhood.

They did the best they could with the limitations that the console could afford them, and I enjoyed it. Certainly a better effort than what we get these days.

As for Bungie, they are not saints. But the creators have since long retired or were push out from pasture to other places. All we have left are naught but the dying embers of what was a once great franchise. At least we still have the memories of what once was, if nothing else. The mods are nice to hold me over, but it'd be nice to get a solid AAA. Never gonna happen, but it's nice to dream.

I think it's something of note when even the fanfiction scene for this series is more or less dead. A bad sign right there in terms of engagement. Still alive, but a far cry from its peak. Not enough new blood coming in to fill the void. Not enough of the old guard remains to patch things over. But at least a few remain to keep those scant few embers alive.

I think another problem is that a lot of the more popular fics on places like Ao3 are cross-overs. More importantly, crossovers with Mass Effect. ANOTHER dead franchise.

ODSTs are actually in CE, they aren't wearing their armor but the are named as such in the subtitles.

As for the discussion on Reach and it's wonky inconsistancies, Reach was the first game that they let Frank o'connor contribute to as a writer. Take that for what you will.
