Andy gets too much hate, he does play off PPP well and PPP would be too busy eating 24/7 to do a show without him. Andy does a lot behind the scenes as well that PPP would never do like editing and booking guests. He gives a nice retard counterbalance to PPP's autism. As for the sobriety thing he only brings it up when it's brought up by a donor or when someone calls him a cokehead, I don't detect any self-righteousness about it.
