Greta Gustava Martela / Kjel Anderson & Nina Chaubal / Niraj Chaubal - Stole $350k+ from Trans Lifeline, kill count of 2+ from negligence, Founders of Sisterwood/La Zorra.

I for one would really like to see a single post on Tumblr, hell even some sort of place like Medium or elsewhere, that can be definitively pointed to as a compilation of evidence that TLL's an unreliable resource at best and a scam at worse.
I've already been trying to talk about how it shouldn't get passed around as a resource upheld on the same level as major national suicide hotlines that actually answer their calls, but it's nigh impossible. Especially when right now this thread is the best source of info on these claims and when you're trying to talk to people who dismiss literally everything that comes out of KF as fake... (I was joking about Greta showing up at Null's house on twitter and legit had people going "I bet that was fake/she didn't actually go" despite literally posting her Facebook post about it simply because it was something that had KF involved)
People have already said as much but really, they've got a fantastic scam going by running a supposed helpline for such an at-risk group. Any criticism just gets written off as being hatemongering or excused away by "well maybe they're understaffed/overwhelmed/etc". People don't want to consider that maybe their group is being taken advantage of by people who are also part of it.

You're not going to convince the true believers - as you saw when they didn't even believe the evidence of Greta's own post.

The best you can hope for is to warn those who haven't yet been sucked in and tumblr is as ill-suited to that as Twitter.

From memory the filing requirements for non-profits are based on revenue and right now their revenue is sufficiently low that their reporting requirements are minimal. Get enough money and eventually you have to file audited accounts on a regular schedule. IIRC, there are both federal and state level laws which govern non-profits (but only some states specifically address "crisis" services).

I *think* the information about that is somewhere earlier in this thread. We did look into both IRS requirements and non-profit requirements before. More inaccurate public statements and more expenditure of donated money on things other than their core business makes them more likely to crash and burn, not less. They can avoid that by actually doing what they say they do rather than using TLL to benefit Greta and friends but them doing that seems unlikely.
Could they under report? I mean I know thats highly illegal but how likely would they be to get caught?

I made a post a few pages back where I read that California has some regulations for crisis centers. Most of the info mentioned were about rape crisis centers and not phone hotlines but I imagine the phones are under the same section of law. Either way I didnt find out any specifics but there were hints that they were regulated in how staff are trained.

or being talked into transitioning (without regard for whether it's really best for them).
Is that actually happening? If so that might be illegal in some way. Either offering medical advise or doing something thats beyond the scope of a crisis center or thier charity.

I stopped interacting with tumblr three years ago after anti-FTM hostility became too much for me. Other kiwis have better info on recent tumblr developments, but here's my explanation of what I saw.

If you post on tumblr and say "Hey, I'm a girl/guy and I'm not 100% comfortable in the stereotypes of my gender", you're probably gonna get fifty responses saying "YOU ARE TRANS WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY". Anyone who says "yeah, that's normal, don't worry" will either get drowned out or shouted down.

My info is out of date, but tumblr also passed around info on informed consent clinics, where all you have to do is say "I'm trans and I want hormones". Tumblr gets real mad at "gatekeepers", which is to say any medical professional who wants to make sure your trouble doesn't stem from another issue before clearing you for hormones / surgery. If the doctor/therapist doesn't just rubber-stamp you through, they're obviously a terrible transphobe.

I also remember the beginnings of a loose kind of campaign to name and define a bunch of wacky nounself genders. The result of that is that virtually every way a person can relate to their gender gets tossed under the umbrella of "totally trans for real". You're a girl who's not always comfortable as a stereotypical girlie-girl? You're obviously a beautiful trans demigirl. There's a whole galaxy of variants, all about as specific as a horoscope -- there's at least one that everybody could feel applies to them.

Most tumblr users are in their teens or early twenties, a time in life when the identity changes and develops a great deal. Finding a name for the feelings you have is reassuring, and tumblr provides a wealth of names for feelings about gender and sexuality. (Don't fuck on the first date? You're demisexual, and therefore a queer instead of an icky heterosexual.)

And tumblr says "if you feel these ways, you're obviously trans", and places "I only feel manly sometimes" on the same level as "after getting checked out by doctors and therapists, I think the best thing for me is to transition".

Example: Someone I know got sucked into this and ID'd as FTM for years. They were scheduled for top surgery recently... and then she had a minor breakdown and realized that she just wasn't happy at all living as a man. Being a woman was hard, but it made her less anxious and unhealthy. She's now detransitioning and much happier. I think quite a few kids on tumblr have similar experiences.

Tumblr makes it easy to think that you're trans, advantageous to present as trans, and discourages the medicalization of transsexuality. There's only one answer they have to the question of "What's it mean if I experience my gender a different way?" and it's "You're trans!"

It's not a planned campaign, just the collected influence of many tumblr behaviors, but I do think it causes unnecessary stress to kids who get fooled into thinking they're really trans. Being trans is a hard fucking road to walk, and I don't like that tumblr encourages people to think they're trans.

I wish tumblr would just encourage these kids to be comfortable in themselves, and tell them that there's nothing wrong with being cis or heterosexual. That would decrease the pressures that push kids towards calling themselves autisgender or whatever the latest nounself is.

But it's tumblr so change probably ain't coming any time soon.

Edited spoiler tags so this dumb gay post doesn't eat up so much screen real estate.

So I probably shouldn't put together a tumblr post?

It IS like talking to a brick wall, after all.

I think you should, really. The primary thing about most tumblr users is that they'll eat up anything that looks legitimate and well-sourced. (The trans stuff gets swallowed for this reason, as does SJW stuff -- if you got a couple articles to link, tumblr thinks it's alllll good.)

So just talking shit about TLL will go unnoticed. Callout posts with at least a couple links and screencaps get attention and belief, especially if they come from a respectable-looking blog.

Edit:
Here's hoping something good comes of it.
So far it has 1,110 notes, is that good or bad? (I don't spend much time on Tumblr.)

Oh I thought you meant that Greta was actually suggesting people transition using the staff at the lifeline. I must have misread.

Hey, you got a response.

Hi there! I’m a longtime trans lifeline operator. We have a fundamentally different philosophy regarding our mission and we’re clear about that. We’re a band-aid organization, we run on a shoestring budget and do not meet the magnitude of need, and we’re clear about that too. We do not force anyone to use our service or donate money to us, we are open about our mission and limitations and we are there to do the best we can for people who want what we do have to offer. It’s true that our operators receive minimal formal training - if in-depth mental health training is more important to you in a crisis than speaking to someone in our community, no one would discourage you from using a conventional crisis service. If the risks associated with active rescue are acceptable to you, you still have all the choices there that you had before.

Being unable to fully address our call load, and practicing our mission in ways that you disagree with, does not make us a scam. If you feel that you could provide a better service, we are all quite serious in asking that you do so. We’d be happy to learn from you! It’s not easy, being the only organization that does what we’re trying to do specifically. But if all you’re going to do is regurgitate tired smears assembled by 4chan creeps, you aren’t helping.

Do they follow state and federal regulations when it comes to staff training regarding crisis centers? Is the Trevor Project not part of thier community? I fail to see what they offer that the Trevor Project doesnt.

Emphasis mine. I appreciate this persons response cause they don't seem totally tilted. But discouraging people from using a conventional service is seemingly Greta's one and only goal. He created the service because he was misgendered over the phone. If he had his way, the regular Suicide Prevention lines would be terminated because cissies deserve to die. This person who replied seems kind enough but has drunk the kool aid of Greta's cult

Can you point me to some instances where she has said this?
