What Mike Judge did with King of the Hill is that he just knew to make an entertaining show first and also have Hank admit he was wrong.Hit the nail on the head. Impotent boomer politisperg shows that don't actually say anything but "wow, imagine if this were reversed!" should be laughed at into cancellation every time. None of them have whatever secret sauce Mike Judge used while making King of the Hill, because King of the Hill is a great watch whether you care for the politics or not.
From what I hear he didn't hit the mark with the more leftward equivalent show (The Goode Family), but I've not seen it myself so take it with a grain of salt.
I am not very conservative myself, but Hank is a pretty admirable character since he's just a simple man who is pretty likeable but still a funny man. He can be both in the right and wrong, and is willing to concede while still sticking to his principles.
I know that's a lot to say about one character, but compare that to Mr. Birchum, New Norm, and a lot of shows that focus on being "conservative entertainment" and all of them have unlikeable protagonists who are dicks and are meant to be seen as in the right no matter what because they say the right talking points.
Its kind of like why Lisa Simpson is an insufferable character because we're expected to always agree with whatever dumb shit she says because she is supposed to be seen as the "smartest".
The simple fact is that King of the Hill worked because it was entertaining, had a good cast of characters that were flawed people, and never really casted anyone as always in the right or wrong.
Compare that to Lisa-centric Simpsons episodes and these conservative cartoons (and any politically motivated show) where we have to just always agree without question with whatever is being said.
As a side note, for Mr. Birchum, the best example of how fucking bad it is can be seen in the first episode where Birchum has children work at his house without their parents knowledge and is still seen as the good guy compared to the liberal strawman who is presented as an evil guy sheltering children for finding it weird that a teacher is basically enforcing child labor on his property and doing it with no awareness to the parents.
