Unpopular opinion possibly, but I think selling fanart/merch is lazy and Jewish and the companies that own these IPs should sue people into poverty for it more often.

Doing homages to different IPs with your own characters is one thing but just outright drawing Tails and adding a turtle and then slapping it into a cheap chinese amazon Keychain maker and selling it at a booth is ultra gay.

Also nobody wants your plushies, Mark. You made a little blind asian boy sew those for 2 cents an hour for them to collect dust in a bin in your house.

I don't know, I think drawing fanart to establish your skill is fine but trying to monetize it is where I kind of draw the line.
Not to PL but I've taken online art commissions from randos and relatively prolific youtubers and I make a point not to accept fanart commissions. I'd rather be paid and recognized for my own characters/concepts than further create advertising for an IP that doesn't belong to me.

It's really less about defending the IP rights and more about telling 'artists' that they should be doing their own shit and ACTUALLY diversifying the art landscape instead of pumping out the 35 millionth trash drawing of *insert character here*

But I agree that Mark is smelly and Veronica is BPD and also can't draw her own cartoon breasts in proper perspective, which you didn't mention, but it bothers me.

I've been to several cons with artist alleys and this is probably the most pathetic thing I've seen. The wires are mostly empty, the table has everything to the right making it look too busy, there's not even a tablecloth to hide all the boxes. It just looks empty, no one is going to stop to look at this table. I guess neither Veronica or Mark draw enough to display more prints.

Not to age myself but, back in ye’ olden days when I would hang out and help artists table in artists alley at conventions; if you wanted plastic fanart charms you bought inkjet shrink plastic, cut, sealed, and put attachments on yourself. In 2024 artists just send their fanart png to a Chinese vendor who ships them back a box of plastic tat.
