I would argue that these days, the best place for dudes to have physical strength in the military is in the logistics and artillery side of things. They manhandle heavy stuff daily and during wartime, 24/7. Guys at and behind frontlines benefit most from having great endurance and good VO2 max.

Autoloaders are fucking expensive, full bellies for big men aren't. Artillery does the majority of the work on real battlefields with the trench warfare we've seen remerge since Syria's civil war. It's risky work with drones, satellites, and precision missiles/counterbatteries making previously safe artillery positions prime targets, and the frontlines need excellent artillerymen more than ever now

Everyone knows an army marches on its stomach, good logistics is something that the American military desperate needs via reform. It's hard fucking work, not just properly moving shit from A to B to C, but planning it with advanced statistics and strategic planning. To say nothing about the colossal economic waste and general inefficiency of modern Western militaries, it's evident we need the brightest fixing that mess by whatever means if America is going to stay toe-to-toe with the Eastern powers

I always thought it was strange to idolise SF members. You can respect their accomplishments (like the SAS Iraqi embassy raid), but they are just people who are extremely proficient in killing. I know the killer/warrior label is common among soldiers in general, but I would argue that SF are different.

These people are always going to be murderous psychos because that's what makes them the best at their job. Regular troops have psychos among them as well, but the different skills required for the job and the larger numbers of personnel (lower bar for performance), makes it a less common issue.

From what i've personally observed the US is the only place where civilians mildly give a fuck about military personnel. You go anywhere else in Europe like Germany, France, Italy, even more "militarized" countries like Poland, if you're military personnel you're seen as less than. You're considered incredibly stupid, incredibly poor, possibly violent and definetly racist. If you're a woman you're seen as all those things + a whore.

Unless of course you're some kind of SOF that is, then civilians will kiss the ground you walk on. It's kind of impossible to not develop narcissism, you're inevitably gonna start thinking your shit doesn't stink unlike those silly little conventional forces. Thats why none of the european countries have met their recruitment quotas in over a decade. Throw in things like stagnant wages, stagnant benefits, poor living conditions and lack of support from the military itself and government. Of course no one is gonna want to sign up.

The only people with the a healthy mentality i've seen in the military are the people that treat it like any other job.

That's because most European countries shelved conscription around that time. In U.S. turned their army into a state run mercenary corps way before that. After Vietnam when it turned out that most people actually don't enjoy killing random villagers at the other end of the world, the state figured it needed to stop alienating joe everyman by getting his son(s) killed and started looking at the trailer parks and urban ghettos: e voila. Disposable human resources. For some reason U.S. propaganda still runs on the fumes of ww2, so they still see their forces as heroic everymen but since most European countries were devastated in ww2, they aren't as naive. Since dropping conscription and, in Germany for example, disregarding the constitution by sending forces to fight wars of aggression abroad, people are either: apathetic to soldiers or see them as paid government killers. Europeans irl are just polite but that's the sitch on the ground here. People either hate them all or think they're awesome badasses who should definitely go on and cause more destruction and destrabilisation worldwide, so that we can have even more refugees or even ww3 with russia. But I never ever heard people believing special forces are cool and regular forces are retards, most people, again, either think they're all opportunists at best and unhinged retards at worst or think they're just doing a necessary job.

Had they never shelved conscription and kept it the way it was before Vietnam, there wouldn't have been an Iraq invasion. Because a force which gets it's number from all walks of life, relies on people actually buying into a given war en masse. European states not spending 2% of their GDP on defence as needed by NATO isn't the same as not meeting their recrutment quotas, Germany and Finland always get more people applying to be recruits then they can afford to take in. But I think they're the sole 2 states in Europe that has more men applying to be in the army than what it needs.

Here in Australia, at least in my part of the country, we're born hating the United States, all americans are seen utterly, utterly retarded, who love guns almost as much they love religion, but their real worship is for their own soldiers and making money. A state to point and laugh at and dread at how all the people its education system fails becomes everyone else problem when they grow up and influence world politics. Throughout my childhood I didn't meet a single person who was even neutral towards the US, everyone hated them, aside from the one family of tourists from US I met, who for the whole conversation would only talk at how great America is and how they couldn;t wait to get back (why go on holiday overseas then?).

The US Army is seen as the embodiment of all these things but even more violent, stupid and god obsessed. In my time at uni where I've met Americans intellectuals I've still yet to met anyone who has ever had a positive thought about US troops. I will limit discussion of geopolitics to this reply only to not go overly off topic, it is about how retarded navy SEAL's/delta/ etc are after all, as our gay porn posting deltaguard showed us earlier. Australia would exist just fine without America and argueably be better off, you only 'protect' us from China, the Americans geo-political enemy not ours, we were happy to be the first western country to trade with the China under Mao, forcing America to follow us and open trade relations with a communist country, and America punished us for leading their foreign policy around by the nose for once. Our existence does not require American hegemony, we're not Israel. Only country in the world that receives more American migrants than people migrating to America as well.
