The company that made Tenchu Z is looong gone. Was purchased by Capcom. Shame because Z really expanded the mechanics compared to the PS2 games even though the missions themselves were limited and repetitive.

From never made Tenchu games actually, besides an exceptionally shit XBLA minigame. You'll never guess what talentless shitter was the director for that steaming pile of garbage.

At the time, the story was disappointing because you didn't get to play as Rikimaru and Ayame, and it also missed some of the wacky, over-the-top content.

I recently played Tenchu Z again by emulating it on Xenia Canary, and its gameplay is still better than that of any other third-person stealth game I have played.

Eurogamer definitely didn't get past the first level.
There are some new developments, but they're mostly cosmetic in nature and do little to compensate for the game's fundamental shortcomings. You can now design your own ninja, for example, using a selection of horribly rendered faces and assorted clothing (hint: black is this season's colour) as well as assigning some basic attributes - health, power and agility. Regardless of what you choose, you'll be hard pushed to notice the effects in-game. You can also trade in your points to buy new abilities and moves, though these are so complicated to execute - and so utterly unnecessary for most of the game - that, again, you can safely ignore this feature without it impacting your gameplay one jot.
