Dapagliflozin, sold under the brand names Farxiga (US) and Forxiga (EU) among others, is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is also used to treat adults with heart failure and chronic kidney disease.

Common side effects include hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), urinary tract infections, genital infections, and volume depletion (reduced amount of water in the body). Diabetic ketoacidosis is a common side effect in people with type 1 diabetes. Serious but rare side effects include Fournier gangrene.

In 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the EMA expanded the indications for dapagliflozin to include the treatment of people who have chronic kidney disease but don't have diabetes. Clinical trials had shown the following effects of such a treatment.

The DIAMOND trial (2017-2019) showed in treatment periods of 6 weeks no improvement of excess proteins in the urine (proteinuria), a significant deterioration of the kidney's filtration rate (reversible within 6 weeks after dapagliflozin discontinuation), and a significant mean loss of body weight of 1.5 kg.

The DAPA-CKD trial (2017-2020) showed in a median treatment period of 2.4 years of participants who had already been under ACE or ARB therapy that the events of a sustained decline of 50% in the kidney's filtration rate, kidney failure, or death occurred statistically around eight months later in the treatment group than in the placebo group. In the first 12-16 months of treatment, however, the kidney's filtration rate was worse in the treatment group than in the placebo group, being slightly less negative in the treatment group than in the placebo group only thereafter.

Since dapagliflozin leads to heavy glycosuria (sometimes up to about 70 grams per day), it can lead to rapid weight loss and tiredness. The glucose acts as an osmotic diuretic (this effect is the cause of polyuria in diabetes), which can lead to dehydration. The increased amount of glucose in the urine can also worsen the infections already associated with diabetes, particularly urinary tract infections and thrush (candidiasis). Rarely, use of an SGLT-2 drug, including dapagliflozin, is associated with necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum, also called Fournier gangrene.

Dapagliflozin is also associated with hypotensive reactions. Concerns exist that it may increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis. Dapagliflozin and other SGLT2 inhibitors increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis in type 2 diabetic patients. However, the DEPICT-1 and DEPICT-2 trials showed that dapagliflozin caused additional diabetic ketoacidosis events in the Type I diabetic patients who received dapagliflozin.

Dapagliflozin can cause dehydration, serious urinary tract infections, and genital yeast infections. Elderly people and people with kidney dysfunction, low blood pressure, or who are on diuretic medications should have their volume status and kidney function assessed. Individuals with signs and symptoms of metabolic acidosis or ketoacidosis should also be assessed. Dapagliflozin can cause low blood sugar when combined with insulin.

In 2020, the US FDA expanded the indications for dapagliflozin to include treatment for adults with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure.

tldr: Farixga can deteriorate her already f.ed kidneys, can cause dehydration, serious UTIs and yeast infections, can cause low blood sugar when combined with insulin (cough, cough), can increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis, aaaaaaand - the cherry on top - in rare cases can cause necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum, also called Fournier gangrene. Fournier gangrene is a rare side effect of SGLT2 inhibitors (canagliflozin, dapagliflozin, and empagliflozin), which increase the excretion of glucose in the urine.

I'm pretty new to Chantal in general but I've been around long enough to see a few cows die and aside from the likes of say, Nick Bates who are an actual danger to society, it's always a bit sad to see them go. Not so much because the person is gone, but to see long time posters drift to other topics/cows, to see the thread with all those highs and lows archived away and to know there is just nothing more to say on a subject or anything to add to their story.
Whole communities here and on other sites rise and fall around some cows and you guys seem pretty tight knit in here. Chantal may be a burden on any system she lives in and a disgrace to any culture she adopts, but it will be a shame to see all this in here die with her.

I'll take all the dumb ratings and I know it will never happen but my sick little heart still wants her to be forced into some kind of inpatient program but still allowed to film. To watch her meltdown at 40 years old from hearing someone say "no" and actually stick to their guns would be amazing.
She's admitted herself in a rare moment of clarity that she only complies when she absolutely has to (like with not being able to drink in Kuwait) so it would probably be the only way she stands a chance at survival anyway.

Also I know part of her slobbishness is for show, to defy those that find it gross and to cater to those that fetishize it but rewatching a Thailand vlog where she was out on her own and eating she did seem to be sincerely embarrassed when she was stuck in public after dropping a whole desert on herself.
I have no doubt this and stuffing as much food in her face at once started out as an act of defiance against table manners as well as her feral need to eat as much as possible as fast as possible, but being unable in public while admitting she doesn't like that she does it makes me wonder if there is another factor at play.
It's possible she just eats so compulsively that even when making an effort she can't slow down and/or take smaller bites but I'm also wondering if her dexterity is just so bad because of all the layers of fat between muscles and skin that she actually just can't align her mouth and paws sometimes. Or maybe even feel if she misses.
That's just a guess. It would be interesting to see her attempt an activity that requires accurate hand movements, but she doesn't even play video games very often these days (and when she does its hard to tell if she sucks because her retardation is physical or mental).

As a long-time Chantologist, my fascination has always been trying to noodle out the nature/nurture aspect of exactly how Chantal was created. Of course that comes with tons of speculation and very little fact. Even what is fact is merely anecdotal and these anecdotes come from Chantal, so their veracity is always suspect.

Chantal has always dropped little hints, like smelly little turds. These droppings point to part of the story of Fat and tantalize me. I'm sick like that. I have always imagined that part of Chantal's "binge" story is something that she is still deeply ashamed of. She insists to this day, that what we have observed on The Tubez "IS NOT A BINGE!". Of course this is mostly nonsense, but I would like to know, what does Chantal consider "bingeing"?
Let me tell you what I think Chantal considers a binge. This consists of what she has stated and a whole lot of conjecture on my part. Chantal is a "sneak eater." She creeps out of bed in the middle of the night and raids the pantry and refrigerator. She does not care that there may be no real "food" in the kitchen as such, she is under compulsion to eat and eat she does. I believe Chantal has many times, sat by the light of the refrigerator and spoon in hand, eaten the whole jar of mayonnaise And then poured that whole bottle of french dressing into her mouth. She scoops out the last of the grape jelly onto the stale saltines. She ladles out the hotdog relish onto her slices of Kraft Processed American cheese and frantically stuffs it in. She gobbles down a cold pack of hotdogs, eyes darting left and right, listening to see if anyone is awake. She doesn't want to be caught in her shame. She doesn't want to be yelled at again for eating what was to be tomorrows supper. She doesn't want to see her Mothers tears of frustration. She doesn't want to be stopped. She downs the loaf of white wonder bread and then creeps back to bed. In the morning, she will deal with the fallout. Her mothers' frustration. Her stepfathers' anger. Bibi's silence.
Chantal thinks that if she sits at table, with a huge prepared meal of some sort, it is not a binge, it is merely "overeating". It is semantics and denial.
Here is one story Chantal told. As a child at the dinner table, her mother scolded her for putting too much dressing on her salad. Her mother told her that if she ruined the salad she would not get out of eating it. She would have to eat it, regardless. Chantal defiantly proceeded to put MORE DRESSING on that "heathy salad" and then proceeded to eat the salad with great glee and that slappable smug look on her face.
To this day, Chantal makes a mockery of a "healthy salad". We have all seen her romaine lettuce leaf, filled with shredded cheese and drenched in salad dressing. Or even just a bowl of shredded cheese covered in dressing. This is that healthy salad now, Mom! You can't make me save my life, Mom! I'm all grown up and will do what I want!
That will show her, Chantal.
These are the faint echo's of what Smee went thru when trying to correct Chantal's dietary course. If only someone had early on tried to correct her attitude. But maybe that is where nature took over. Sometimes the horror is hardwired.
