Roblox is a very insular community; it was always a game that was "on the outgroup", for lack of a better term, it was never in the eyes of the mainstream since it was always seen as the shitty game that little kids play, right up until it's suddenly one of the largest gaming companies out there and is one of the only platforms to host an economically successful "multiverse" that so many other companies have tried and failed to replicate.

They've done a whole lot to draw in a wider Audience nowadays but there's still a very significant part of the platform that never had a mainstream connection, so it's still hard for outsiders to see in, particularly for the more obscure communities.

I feel like the biggest thing that contributed to the growth of the number of cases with pedophiles is just how easy it is to have access to unsupervised children on the internet now. Your dad was right to tell you that, my mom did the same with me and this was during the time period where these types would try to get you to meet up with them. Nowadays they don’t even have to meet up anymore, there’s private discords and DM group chats. Pair that with this growing trend where people just don’t care and will put their entire lives on the internet with no sense of opsec thanks to a lot of social media platforms encouraging it.
