"The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania," the FBI said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
"This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and anyone with information that may assist with the investigation is encouraged to submit photos or videos online at FBI.gov/butler or call 1-800-CALL-FBI," the statement continued.

So, before FOX News Digital released that information, the New York Post was the FIRST outlet (I repeat, the FIRST media outlet) to report the name "Thomas Matthew Crooks"
New York Post: "The gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump Saturday was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, sources told The Post."
The New York Post mentioned the name 'Thomas Matthew Crooks' around an hour BEFORE all the other news outlets did. Some of us, myself included, assumed that the New York Post got DUPED by a Twitter troll named @jewgazing, whose pics have been going around the Internet and mislabeled as pics of the actual shooter.
It was a reasonable assumption for me to initially believe that the NY Post gave us the wrong name, partly because the New York Post also INITIALLY erroneously reported that the wannabe assassin was "Chinese." So, analysis at first was that the New York Post

claiming to be Thomas Matthew Crooks and posted other pictures of *HIMSELF* claiming that the pictures were of the assassin. @jewgazing initially fooled me into believing that his name really is Thomas Matthew Crooks and that he duped the New York Post and other media outlets into spreading his name and pictures around.

However, the FBI is NOT claiming that those @jewgazing pics (mainly of a lookalike in a blue shirt) are the wannabe assassin, they're merely claiming that the wannabe assassin had the name Thomas Matthew Crooks and is 20 years old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
Hypothetical Future Scenario: IF the FBI starts claiming those @jewgazing pics (see example right below) are attributable to the actual wannabe assassin, then we have some sinister potential fuckery on our hands. It would mean they're pinning the assassin's identity on faggot twitter troll @jewgazing

I assumed the NY Post made an error with the name "Thomas Matthew Crooks" because of this twitter faggot who may have fooled them, as media outlets tend to get fooled by online rumors. The NY Post erroneously claimed, at first, that the assassin was Chinese, so I figured they were also erroneous in reporting the name. But it turns out the New York Post released the correct name BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE DID.

My Reaction Was: "wait...so the New York Post leaked that name, correctly(??) over an hour before everyone else did? Shorter tentative **POSSIBLE Timeline of the Media Reporting on the Wannabe Assassin**
first of all, it's quite possible that a LEGIT source told the New York Post the name "Thomas Matthew Crooks" and that the New York Post released that name BEFORE all the others. However, the New York Post also erroneously first reported that the assassin was 'Chinese', which made people like me suspect they released bullshit to the public when they claimed the name was 'Thomas Matthew Crooks'
and then -- @jewgazing (twitter faggot I'm still annoyed at for confusing me and many other people) saw that New York Post article and started claiming that HE is Thomas Matthew Crooks (even though he isn't). Then people started spreading pictures of @jewgazing claiming that those pics are of Thomas Matthew Crooks. This episode may have fooled me into thinking that @jewgazing's IRL name = Thomas Matthew Crooks, when it really isn't. Look, you can accuse me of being faceblind, but @jewgazing has similar nose and lips to the guy in the high school graduation ceremony, so my erroneous assumption was that 'Thomas Matthew Crooks' = @jewgazing who is still alive, and that the real name of the wannabe assassin would get revealed eventually
