I only bring this up because people like Null blindly repeat it. You can't pardon people who haven't been sentenced, convicted, charged, or even arrested yet. To my knowledge no Jan6 defendant was convicted before Trump left office. Should've Trump done more for them as a private citizen? Yes. Could he have blanket pardoned everyone involved in the last two weeks of his admin during an impeachment trial? Not even remotely.

For all the talk about polarization, your average citizen doesn't care to the extent of the psychopathic terminally online hyperpartisans. They lean one way or the other, maybe vote how their family votes, but don't spend their entire lives obsessing over the outcome of elections or view everything through a political lens. The last two elections have been decided by the slimmest of margins, and Trump's biggest weakness has been suburban women, then losing a bit of the older vote in 2020. They certainly don't wish death upon political candidates.

The terminally online left's unfeeling inhuman reaction is not going to appeal to or impress the average citizen. I know a lot of moderate or historically right-leaning voters who didn't vote, voted third party, split their ticket, or even voted for Biden instead of going for Trump in 2016 or 2020. This was over Trump's rhetoric and personality.

By turning Trump and his family into an object of sympathy instead of expressing genuine horror and self reflection, Republicans are about to be handed a landslide. Conspiracy theories, hatred, censorship, and attempting to rewrite what we saw with our own eyes is not going to impress Joe or Jane Shmoe who don't like Trump's personality.
