It's been really eye-opening to see just how many people are outright okay with political violence now. And it's not like such sentiments would need to be in the majority for shit to kick off; I doubt any Civil War ever started with a majority of the population actually wanting violence.
Shit gets even bleaker when you consider that the "critical mass" needed to send a country over the edge is probably lower than ever, because the Internet allows these people to connect with and amplify each other.

I think it really helps to have a population that all have some military experience from a draft or otherwise, instead of one sedated by internet, porn, drugs, games, social media. Mentally people might be at civil war level, but I have strong doubts they are there physically, to actually have the backbone to carry such an emdeavor.

Internet also makes it easier to find, identify, monitor this kind of activity.
