All he knows is polycythemia vera at this moment. How about all the other alleged conditions he had? I'm guessing a good majority of them were either lied about or extreme exaggerations, like a cold can and have led to cardiac arrest before.
He treats his "diagnosis" the same way he treats his arrest; if he thinks it will get him out of having to work then he's a "convicted felon", if he thinks it will get him sympathy than he was martyring himself for his "family" (which I guess is a repairman and his dog) and if he needs to get out of trouble than he was a victim of stalking and harassment.
To tie this back in; we know he's got
something wrong with him medically and mentally, you can tell just by looking at him, but like liquid it will take the shape of whatever container he puts it in that day.
Lying about cancer is fucking low.
Lying about your mother molesting you is fucking low.
Personally I'm in the camp that lying about CSA is worse, BUT lying about cancer tends to have a bigger impact on someone's reputation.
I think because for most people CSA is a kind of poison that effects each victim differently and tends to happen under specific circumstances. You're not going to be a victim of it in your 40's while fixing the roof.
Cancer can happen to anyone though and will always require medical attention to fight.
There is always an actual cost with time and money involved, and since it doesn't discriminate the very fear most people have that "it could be me someday" lends them to being more charitable towards the person who has been diagnosed.
I think it's that universal fear and natural urge to sympathize that causes people to feel stronger when they've been lied to about it.
That and when they have been lying there is
no ambiguity. You can suspect someone lied about being molested but there is almost always a tiny thought in the back of your brain that
something could have happened
. With cancer? No. Not unless your doctor comes straight out and says he fucked up and confused your file with someone elses.
First they suspect cancer and then they do a ton of tests and may even remove lumps, bumps or blood for further testing before you get a diagnosis.
