Since they're private companies, they technically can do it. Not saying it isn't shitty, but it's perfectly legal.

This is an article about what one guy did. Only at the end of it does it even mention Facebook and Google, who aren't even using this one guy's list, but just say they're delisting fake news sites. Google has a better record of that than Facebook, though. There actually are a lot of flat-out fake prank news sites that shouldn't be on Google News but are.

So far as I can tell Russia Today is still on Google News, which is a good barometer of quasi-legitimate news sites that, while absolutely full of bullshit at all times, are at least not outright prank sites.

Russia Today is a far better and more trustworthy source than any of the biased American lugenpresse.

Eric briefly turned to face them, but then moved on swiftly.
He then presumably muttered “I’m rubber and you’re glue, whatever bounces off me sticks to you” under his breath.
