He likely wouldn't have shown up to the event, much less bring along a couple bombs and a gun. Unless he planned to throw the bombs in the crowd, and saw an opportunity and took it because he kept a sniper rifle in his car.

Ok, that's another horrible implication. Either everything was planned as a fed operation, or he would've killed a lot more bystanders with his bombs if the roof was watched. No other option.

The bombs are just more evidence this was a terrorist attack greater in scope than just targeting Trump. He wasn't going to be able to kill Trump with bombs left in his van, those were for bystanders or first responders. With no sure ability to get a shot on Trump, he could only have come ready to shoot at bystanders instead. In fact, it seems plausible that he came to mass shoot Trump supporters as Plan A and having an actual shot at Trump was a bonus objective.

Biden and friends will not want that to be the narrative because they can blame Trump for bringing shit on himself but blaming the deplorables for the same is more of an uphill battle.

This isn't a toss-up, the totality of the circumstances and all available evidence is very consistent with what we saw happen happening. The idea of Trump hacking off a chunk of his ear has absolutely nothing to say for it except there is little to specifically contradict it.
