To add to this, while there have been complaints about this being a witch hunt/the right must be better than the left/ must forgive, etc., cancel culture in these cases is good because it reinforces a baseline morality, and reinforces the shift in the Overton window.

The Overton window shifted for the first time in years, leaving them out of it.

I am finding it greatly amusing to see TDSers fedposting as if nothing had happened, since they always had the privilege of doing so, and FAFOing.

Not only did it shift, it shifted HARD and FAST to the right overnight. Almost like the Overton Engineering they have been using to force the window hard to the left for oh, decades finally failed.

Someone on twitter once called it the "frame game." The trick is thus: The most extreme far righty opinions -- white supremacy, for one example -- is and always will be permanently and firmly outside of the overton window barring some sort of fundamental realigning of American culture to the point that the US would no longer exist as we know it. But there should be a spectrum of ideas from centerist to center right to righty to fringe righty to batshit righty.

The natural window is something like this, and I'm going to fuck this up cause it's been too long since I've articulated the idea:

Batshit left - fringe left - unpopular left - popular left - centerist - popular right - unpopular right - fringe right - batshit right

Unacceptable - rejected politically - a bit weird - acceptable - acceptable - acceptable - a bit weird - rejected politically - Unacceptable

But if you intentionally pretend there's no difference between center right and batshit righty -- if you call everyone, literally everyone, to the right of Mao a nazi and a facist and 'alt right' and maybe even get a bunch of fucking retards like Nick Fuentes to try and claw and drag the conservatives along for the ride or at least rub his stench all over them -- then a massive amount of the options... fall out of the overton window. Truly batshit ideas will never not be batshit -- and because of that, any ideas that are successfully tied to them fall right out the window as well.

So. You claim anything past a certain "barely acceptable" level (decided by the left, of course) of righty ideas are actually unacceptable. here's how the window now looks:

How, here's where the real fun happens, and why they've been doing this. The overton window is a spectrum of acceptable ideas. What happens when you engineer things like this?

Well, as you can see, you slide everything to the left, a lot. The only acceptable stance, politically, is leftist -- at least populist leftist political opinions and policies, if not the more unpopular ones. Fringe ideas like child transitioning become "unpopular but not whackadoodle ideas." On the other side, even being centerist or moderate is a bit weird, on the edges of what's considered acceptable. Actual righty ideas that are popular become fringe ideas, things you can believe in, but you probably shouldn't talk about in polite company. And everything past that becomes completely unacceptable to talk about, things that will get you disowned, disbarred, fired, et cetera -- things like meritocracy. Being a leftist becomes "the norm" and being a conservative makes you inherently a fringe element of society. And groups like the DSA, BAMN, and Antifa become unpopular but not unacceptable elements of society.

The left started the relevant version of this shit with "Punch a Nazi" with Richard Spencer. That -- political violence -- was always a fringe idea, unacceptable to most. But the frame game the left was playing slid it into "a bit weird but it won't force the DNC to pull support from you" territory,

But they lost control, perhaps temporarily, of the overton window. So now that little joking thing -- "ha ha, we should assault our political opponents in the street" (or rather, it's more fringe "we should kill our political opponents!" version) has gone from a bit weird to whackadoodle or outright unacceptable (where it belongs).


Wonder if the shift will cause shit like child grooming transitioning to fall out of the "unpopular but not reviled" edge of the window, or if the media will rally and help seize control of the overton window again. We'll see if they keep pretending everyone to the right of obama is a nazi that deserves death.
