I just want to ask does Pat even own a AR or any intermediate rifle like a AK? As far as I know, the longest range gun he has is his Stargate gun, the PS- 90 with a 200 yard range. Does he even have a bolt action? I'm just saying, he sounds like he's quoting Wikipedia and not having actual experience.

Fatrick is just reading directly from the M16 arms manual, but he doesn't understand the difference in the maximum range and the maximum effective range. Both are based on a mechanical average and don't factor in the skill of the shooter. He would know this if he had been taught this instead of skimming the .pdf of the military version of the owner's manual.

Even maximum effective range and max range has qualifiers. What's the barrel length, twist rate,and bullet weight? I doubt this kid was using a completely stock M16A1/A2 clone straight out of Vietnam or Desert Storm with the full 20 inch barrel and stock polymer handguards.

Thats why snipers are typically specialist trained, and not just the guy who happens to get the most hits on the range during basic.

Huh, thought it was a pretty common cartridge for small game hunting in the US. I know it's illegal for hunting here in Germany, but then again, our restrictions are pretty draconic anyway. Thought the US was mostly pretty lax with that. Still, .223 probably wouldn't drop a deer reliably anyway.

Under normal circumstances Pat is a huge coward. However, he has a very poorly controlled temper and a history of making murder threats that those close to him found credible. If he suffers a severe enough narcissistic injury, I think he could "see red" for long enough to kill someone if they were nearby. I don't think he could maintain that state long enough to drive to a Florida swamp though. Besides which, Josh's seismic sensors would give him ample forewarning of Patrick's approach.

Well, deer are considered medium game, small game is typically, squirrels, rabbit, raccoon etc. 556 wouldnt be suitable for small game because allthough the bullet is about the sane size as .22, the cartridge is larger so it has much more energy. I use .22 longrifle for squirreks and rabbit all winter long at my local WMA.

While 556 can kill a deer with proper shot placement it is much more difficult because of how small the bullet is. Like you said it isn't reliable enough to be humane.
