Out of 785 rentals listed in Clearwater on Zillow the cheapest is starting at $1k a month. In this area of Florida the only time properties are leased by a landlord this far in advance is for seasonal occupancy (Nov-May). That means the unit will be extremely expensive and the tenancy will be limited to a few months. Even the scummiest places not listed on reputable sites will require a credit check. So, best case scenario… Someone will have to pay her first, last, and security AND give up their credit info to co-sign (especially given she is on a fixed income.)

Cold and prevention are really the only effective long term defences against cockroaches of any species, and even well kept houses can end up with severe infestations for multiple reasons outside the owner's control. The fuckers come up from the drains, there's massive colonies in the sewer system where it stays a comfortable temperature for them the whole year round. During a long, hot summer, it's a constant battle just to keep the fuckers at bay; getting rid of the things entirely is impossible. There's a reason why many people in the tropics become tolerant of fuck huge spiders wandering around their house, they're yet another weapon in the never ending war of attrition against the roaches.

It's pretty common- even normal- for people in financial distress to allow themselves one luxury in order to keep them going. For me it was good quality tea, for a lot of insane people it's coffee. There are ways to cut down the cost: hand grinding beans, drip filters instead of machines, only allowing yourself one precious cup a day etc.

It's possible to have some "luxury" foods within financial restrictions, but you will have to be prepared to put in much more time and effort into obtaining them and preparing them.

But it's not that Polissa can't...

They also make plastic pods with a really fine metal mesh where you don't need filters. I got mine for the equivalent of about $3-4 USD or so for a 2 pack. The hinge on the lid is just a small piece of plastic, but they usually break on me after about 1-2 years of daily use if I'm really gentle. Nothing else to buy and no waste (except the small amount of used grounds that get tossed into the compost). And even without buying gormet coffee, it still tastes way better than those horribly expensive K cups. Though, I can't see Polissa bothering to carefully dump out and rinse the thing after every use (they like to cling to the mesh and stick inside). It usually takes me about a minute or two to get all of the grounds out. Too much work for Polissa.

I think I remember from earlier in this thread that her followers on Twitter or something were putting things from her wishlist into their carts, but never completing the checkout process to purchase them. It resulted in tying up the items so no one else could buy them for her. She caught on what was happening after seeing that people bought them (and thanking her audience on social media), and then they never arrived, lol.

Been hunting for the source, but I think it was lost in her Twitter. Her original excuse was Josh's untreated diabetes. Something about how staying in Alabama was the same as a death sentence for him. I don't know if she ever specified how Florida would change that situation beyond being close to his family as opposed to hers. Maybe it's a public healthcare thing? Someone from the US plz explain.

My take is that she wants to be close to family because she's used to hers helping her out when she has an issue, despite her being a useless, thankless wretch. As a reminder, when she turned 40 her mother made her a cake, bought her chicken wings and gifted her an air fryer. She did not eat the cake because it had Red 40, and didn't touch the wings because of her 'food aversions' -- so her mamaw had to make her a chocolate cake to make up for the 'fiasco'.

She's an overgrown child who could not survive without others' support, and deep down she knows it. She didn't drop the cats at her mom's and drive to Florida because years ago because Josh had cut off his family for 'being toxic', and they knew that rolling anywhere without family they can guilt into paying their rent or give them food would be an actual death sentence for both of them.
