That's not what they did. The policy relates to the sponsors on a video. Youtubers can still create and release gun related videos, but those videos cannot feature sponsored content that's been sponsored by firearms, firearms accessories, or ammunitions companies.

You could hypothetically create a Youtube channel where all the videos are about guns, and then have the videos sponsored by anything other than those prohibited sponsors.

What does that mean? It means that they can slap the shit out of you, beat the shit out of you, but if you slap them back or attempt to defend yourself, they will start crying to high heavens of how Un-Christian you are.

The rule is specifically regarding text in the title and description. All they have to do is remove all mentions and links to the sponsor from those two text fields, leave the video as is, and they're fine. Here's a link. And here's the relevant passage highlighted for easy comprehension:
