I think a lot of the dismisivness men have towards women can be attributed to the climate created by the current progressive order in the media, NGOs and government. I had a revelation on a 6 hour road trip with my husband when he didn't use the bathroom once, and didn't seem to understand what I meant when I asked if he was sure he didn't want to just go use the bathroom anyways even though he said he didn't need to.

One of the weird differences is how highlighting you're female in any way changes your online experience. Women have a choice to either consciously pretend to be male or deal with the attention that signaling being female is. When I got banned from a game site I created a new profile, new name and decided to change my gender to female. It was a very different experience, with people talking more, pursuing friendship status, asking how my day was. Some guy even randomly bought a game for me. Other men might think "oh nice, you received something", but you never quite know what gift comes with expectations/strings attached.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems for women it's more of a bind, because it causes you to have to negate what you are to prevent this kind of attention. Or more likely, just have to deal with it. It's so strange: no picture, no feminine chat behavior, no age, no voice and that's enough to get the attention.

Also, I don't know if it's gender specific, so I'm curious: is it more common for men to ask/demand a certain kind of public online presence? I've never had a girlfriend ask me to show more/less of X, but I know I've had expectations of girlfriends on that level. Are these some women who ask this of their man as well?

This is a big part of why I love this site to death. I've always pretended to be male on the internet everywhere except for here. I think the strangest thing is that we wahmins have to grow up a lot faster than men in a lot of ways. We're perceived in a sexual manner much earlier than men (and I mean this in general, this is not to say young men never experience that as children, it's just a lot less common), we have to be more emotionally mature, and on average we start puberty even earlier.
