My conspiracy theory is that the great rat unbanning was performed by Bossmanjack's Howl handler, who also at the same time reorganized his discord to be this soy reddit abomination. There's currently almost 5k people in there. Knowing that he goes on banning sprees for whatever reason, there were probably many people banned for something completely harmless, who could be following him and hopefully converting to full time Howl gamblers. The few spammers that were unleashed yesterday were pretty much pacified and back under control within a few minutes.
