there's a few factors for his early success

* released lots of videos, definitely helped with the algorithm
* actually went outside to buy games at early release and had videos up on day1 (at times when physical sales still mattered)
* unfiltered gameplay (no walkthrough, no review, no promo). just an average retard stumbling through the game

Especially in respect to the last 2 points it's important to remember that streaming didn't really exist, and a lot of people were already pretty jaded about IGN and their ilk. Nowadays no one needs DSP for the raw gameplay (it's everywhere) plus his commentary and gameplay are ass, so no one watches his garbage.

And dummy hasn't ever pivoted from this mindset, although he'll pretend that "thoroughly taking his time with a game is more meaningful" or something. He's eternally stuck in wanting things to be like 2011-2014.

On release, as in midnight the game comes out, you can typically find people streaming the game who are competent, some who are awful but entertaining, and some in the middle of both, on top of typically having a no-commentary single video for both the story & cutscenes only and something that has playthrough too.

Phil somehow checks none of these boxes, then whines about views, while also whining that he doesn't want to be a big deal. He was so close the other day in his mini rant about Maximillian Dood being able to do anything on stream because he's entertaining, but somehow missing the ocean by not coming to the conclusion that Phil therefore is not entertaining (nor even remotely likeable) therefore doesn't have that luxury.

He wants it to be even before that. Because 2012ish came the competiton. More likeable guys with the knowledge to make Direct capture work easily plus better game play. Phil could never compete with tht. Heck in some of his earlier rant vidoes (like "I haven't changed!") he ranted about competition and that he needs good games so that his "meaningful" playthroughs are good. He still doesn't realize he needs to be entertaining to make games good. The only time he is somewhat entertaining is when he fucks stuff up (so not reading guides)

Heck it took him until 2013 to finally move to Direct Capture, probably because he realized that his misunderstanding of US copyright law did not apply to Direct Capture of video game footage. And even after he made the switch his career was slowly dying because it's Phil. He never realize3d that HE, YES HE is the problem all along

It's great to see another big donator switch sides. Jordan has been in the comment sections of detractor videos the last couple of days. He said he liked the small community of DSP's chat, but after watching all the proof of his donations going to Hogan pulls, he said he will no longer give Phil any money. I may not understand it but I like it when it happens, because inevitably the whale will reveal themselves to be yet another idiot with no future, no sexual history and not nearly enough cash to afford keeping Phil afloat to his satisfaction.

He already indirectly said this a few streams ago. I don’t remember the exact quote but he mentioned how day one people put out videos on how to counter bison and he said “at least let me play the character first”

Phil wanting it both ways is another thing that makes him look like an asshole…

If you want a set salary, get a job. If you want to be rewarded based on contributions for putting out content or something, then accept that some days will be lower than others.

Also he knows that putting smaller number/larger number is equivalent to holding out his hand the whole time. There are few id any streamers who let on that they’ll be hiring if their goals aren’t met.

In fact he hasn’t hit the tip goal plenty and last I checked, he keeps coming back. So must not be that dire then…
