This is why you're not supposed to talk to the cops. It's not because you'll say the wrong thing, it's because literally whatever you say is the wrong thing. It's the same as the "every ammo is the wrong ammo" thing. If you used hollow point for self-defense they're going to tell the jury that you should have used full-metal jacket. If you use full-metal jacket they'll say it should've been hollow point. Every ammo is wrong. Every gun is wrong. Everything you say is wrong.
The only "right" answer is to give them whatever identification you're required to give and then say "I am invoking my fifth amendment right and will not answer any questions". AND THEN SHUT UP. That's the only thing you can say that they won't be able (at least legally, although they might try) to take in front of a jury and say "see what he said, this is why it makes him guilty".
