UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I took my dad out for a few pints last night and holy fuck boomers are based.

My dad and his best mate are old school TDS Labour cattle, but the rest of the guys were full on Reform voters. One was a little too based when he started going on about Tommy Robinson.

Hope lies with the boomers.
Tommy Robinson interviewed by Peterson

I thought this was interesting. Changed my opinion of him.

He’s not as smart as he thinks himself to be, but he’s not as dumb as the media say he is.

Watching the entire establishment crush him should have horrified anyone with any care about living in a society with rule of law.

Sending him prison for mortgage fraud after the entire financial industry basically had aided practically anyone daft enough to commit mortgage fraud before crash was frightening.

His “I’m a journalist so contempt of court doesn’t apply to me” grift is cringe and retarded.

It did show us that nothing terrifies the establishment more than someone who can unite and organise white working class men though.

Starmer poncing about with EU leaders to show Davos he’s a good boi.

It won’t surprise if his deal to stop the boats was just to have the EU stick them on planes and fly them here at the UK taxpayers expense.

Those 1.5 million homes he wants to build will be for the Africans he wants to ship in.
I thought his objective was to bring our legislation more in line with the EU's ? To work and co-operate more closely with the EU to foster a closer relationship ? To guarantee that we remain bound by the ECHR ( surprise, surprise given his background ).
I wonder what the end game of this approach is ?

Jay S Tributes.jpg

Jay's family and friends have left some flowers and items near to where his body was found.

Nice touch with the bottle of water. Did they leave a powerbank and phone lead, and a box of Band Aids too?

Mother now asking for more money to get his body home (did he not have travel insurance?) and to give him a "good send off".

I thought people gave their money to help find him?

A GoFundMe grift again?
It should all be given to the rescue services that found his body, which has not left the family wondering what happened to him, and could he be alive somewhere.
It's what I would do if that was my son or brother.

Going to take ages to investigate the smuggling gangs (let alone train up staff for -yet another government department-seeing most of the smugglers base themselves outside of Europe.

How many more will these gangs get across the channel before they are eventually arrested and got to trial?

Push the boats back to France, or if they manage to land, ship everyone on board straight back to France.

Just need to get the message out that no one will be allowed into the UK via this method.

But doesn't your suggestion fly in the face of the ECHR and the rule of law that all asylum seekers have to be assessed before they can be deported ?
Bearing in mind Starmer was a Human Rights Lawyer and would fight on the side of these people, what chance do you think a policy like you suggest has of actually happening in the next 5 years ?
Or were you just letting off steam about the situation ? I can sympathise with that, but unfortunately I'm more in the camp of believing that it would be closing the stable door after the horse has bolted and the country is already doomed.

What I would love to see is a cross-country database of refugees. If you come to a country claiming refuge status you get your photo, prints and blood taken. And countries come to an agreement. If someone is denied refugee status in one country, they are denied by all countries in the system and deported back to their country of origin. If they try it again in another country, no waste in processing their claim, just check their info against the database and deport them within the same day,

Sure there is some reason why something like that can't be done, but it would be nice. And really is no reason why some rejected by the rest of Europe, can then come to the UK and be given the okay even if they come by legal ways.

Starmer and Macron say "there's no silver bullet to stop small boat migrants crossing the channel".
Yes there is, a literal bullet into the small boats crossing the channel, you fucking benders.
-nobody landing by boat or entering the country illegally gets to stay
-if possible push boats back
-if they’ve already landed, they have come from a safe country, asylum is denied, and they’re held in the most minimal safe conditions possible before being sent back to wherever they came from.
-no bennies, no housing, minimal healthcare until deported.
-prints and dna taken, for future deportation
If you stop letting them in, they will stop coming, kier you twat.

Just sink the boats. Then, for every illegal that launches from from France and makes it past the gunboats, we get to kill one frenchman. Win/Win.

The irony is that citizens with passports will soon have to apply for an ETIAS card and then give fingerprint and face-recognition data to Europe so that we can visit Europe. Alternatively, buy a tin of boot polish and enter hassle free.

EDIT: - I was going to make a joke about paying the smugglers with tax payers money to stop the smuggling, but Starmer has beat me to it!!
He's pledging 84 million quid to stop illegal immigration at the source. That source is Africa and Middle-east. How many countries, that aren't war-torn, are they travelling through to get to us? Madness. Utter madness.

Double-posting but whatever.

Dear fellow Brit-thread enjoyers, I have seen an increase in people wearing masks and coofing. Seriously I went to do some shopping today and the supermarket, while fairly quiet, reminded me of mid-covid when everyone was just openly coughing into a mask.

Have you noticed lots of masking and coofing?

Are we headed for another plandemic?

Triple post because everyone has a life and i'm terminally online.

Ongoing "disruption" in harehills, Leeds, West Yorkshire. Harehills is full of blacks, pakis and gangs. Lots of shootings happen in harehills, it's like our chicago.

This could get spicy because 1) these things happen a lot and are rarely reported, 2) it's upgraded from disagreement to disorder and 3) the BBC are using weasely words, which means it's bad, but because of diversity, they can't say anything

Covid put me in bed for two weeks recently. Well worse than the first two times.

If someone is old or looks sick give them a pass.

If they look like the wished that they lived in LA and could vote for Biden then rip them mercilessly.

Double posting in honour of you being a triple post king.

I can remember years ago a riot where blacks went after the Mohammeds because of a story that their kids were getting groomed.

I wish I could remember where but I also remember it being really strange that the BBC, despite the stories being so fresh there couldn’t have possibly been an investigation, they were REALLY stressing these were totally untrue rumours.

Apreesh

Maybe it's something similar this time or black vs pak gang wars. Around 20 years ago, Harehills was majority black, it was just one of those towns where all the blacks moved to. Then the asians started moving in. The place is an absolute shit hole, like run down, impoverished, gangland shit hole, then the next town has the nicest park in West Yorkshire. It's surreal.

Either way, I hope it burns. I hope there's mass riots and Harehills, Chapeltown and Gipton (all 3 are monkey enclosures), all burn to the ground

Yeah I’m seeing people coughing. There seems to be something going round. Waiting until the schools go back to have it brought home and delivered unto me. There’s an election soon, and we need to be scared back into our places. It wouldn’t surprise me if Biden ‘dies of super new strain!’
Harehills thing is supposedly some kids left alone and one got hurt, the social turned up and the family went ape

There’s a really nasty strain of influenza, a couple of strains of coronavirus, and a Labour government that wants to take the last few of our civil liberties away.
