The world order - the balance between East and West - isn't some fierce competition. It's a set of dying empires trying to adapt to a horrific new reality, trapped in a Mexican standoff. Nobody wants to shoot, but nobody wants to lower their gun either. The USA under Trump was visibly willing to lower its gun and everyone was better for it.

ICBMs are some of the fastest manmade objects on the planet, and the heaviest. I don't think there is anything which has a high overall kinetic energy than a full-speed ICBM on its descent.

You're wrong on all fronts. We already have the technology, the Ground Based Interceptor, hell we already have them in Alaska and California. They are talking about mass deployment of that system. They are talking about a scenario where we actually survive the apocalypse. The situation you talk about was true in the 60's. Not in 2024.

They want to put these across the country. We would be invincible if this is implemented. MAD doctrine would fall apart. This is equal to the Sentinel ICBM program under development in terms of importance.

No one has any fucking idea who their actual nominee will be. It's been ping-ponging back and forth as news drops or even rumors. I wouldn't be surprised if it crosses over a 6th time in the next few days. Either way it hardly matters, they're just fighting over who gets to play captain on a sinking ship.

I don't know if Biden has had a stroke or not, but I'm willing to be at least one prominent member of the party has during all of this.

Unless mexico decides to start launching shit over the border, its worthless. What they're talking about is BALLISTIC MISSILE DEFENSE, which we have, but not nearly enough. It's a misconception Nukes are unstoppable. They aren't, they can be stopped. You just need a shit ton of interceptors. We don't have nearly enough. What is being promised is a defensive grid thick enough to take on a Peer threat like russia or china in terms of nuclear warheads, and not just one like North Korea. This is MASSIVE. I'll say this, I don't really have a problem with incredibly dark memes about the incident. We were seeing Fallout VATS memes within TEN MINUTES of the shot. Hell, I found out about the incident from a "Never get a piercing at Claire's" meme.

I DO have a problem with public figures making jokes so soon afterwards. They're not like us, they're not faceless serfs who get to laugh at the chaos that happens around them, they have skin in the game. They will never have to worry about choosing whether to pay for heating or rent, they won't be able to remember the last time they ever went hungry, they're going back to their mansions and sleeping on beds that cost more than our annual salaries.

So when I see a James Gunn or Tenacious D guy or Alex Jones making a super dark joke moments after disaster I can't laugh because it doesn't feel sincere. They might get dropped by their agent (for a few weeks) they might lose a deal, they might even get a "now now, don't be silly" call from an FBI agent but they will never get the real crunch of the machine as pushback from being a tiny man throwing their fist at God.

It would provide work to every state that has a city or industrial center. They are calling it the Iron Dome because of how thick they want it to be. It sounds like a copy of a lot of the plans from the 60's with the Nike Zeus and Nike Hercules programs, that ultimately failed in terms of scope and scale because of the cost.
