Dead video game series/franchises you refuse to let go

I wish we've gotten a third game (:_(
Totally agree. 2 had the better line up Imo. Extra credit to whoever wrote the dialog. One of the best reasons to have a poker night with the boys is the banter and atmosphere. Every once and a while I will go on YouTube and listen to video compilations for the laughs.

It's been about a year so I'm coming here to repeat Duke Nukem. I'm literally having cravings for a Duke Nukem game. This franchise has the potential to save the singleplayer FPS genre. I need Randy Bitchcock to release the rights to a worthy party NOW
I think Jon St. John once did a recording of himself saying "Trans Rights" in the Duke Nukem voice. You should probably discard that whole series and start wishing for a new Serious Sam.

I'm aware Jon St. John is an SJW but he's getting old anyway. A new Duke installment should in any case feature a new voice actor, in my opinion. As long as the character itself remains true & honest to its origins (that's the really improbable part imo) I think it could be quite good.

The World Ends With You

... it's never gonna get a sequel. Even with the hint at the end of the Android/iOS versions and the Kingdom Hearts cameo.

I keep hoping though.
Some people in this topic did ultimately win, didn't they

Burnout because I autistically love watching cars crashing in incredulously high speed.

Driver for pretty much the same reason, but also because I liked Tanner's more laid back personality on San Fransisco. I know they're making a TV show for it, but I doubt if it'll be any good.

Wonder if that Nigga is still around here. nearly a decade later and he got his prayers answered.

The Lunar series... I know the Japanese dev (or what's left of it) is now making korean phone games or something but... damn it, we need more games like LUNAR 1 & 2

Grandia (the first two were great, the first was insta classic with an EPIC ending.. lol) Same as above though sadly. Literally

Onimusha

Just as my first batch.

Prototype. Its one of the few games set in a zombie apocalypse but you are a monster far worse than the zombies and the various infected. The first game was amazing. Showed a city collapsing into chaos as war breaks out between the military and the infected. On top of that, the protag was interesting and the powers are fun! The plot is interesting too because the research into the virus shows how far and deep the conspiracy goes.

Then Prototype 2 happened and it more or less follows the same template much DIE garbage. Protag is now a villain and the plot from the previous game was discarded for a basic bitch revenge story with an angry black man stealing powers to save daughter and kill the original protag. It killed the franchise.

I consider Prototype 2 as patient zero for the DIE infection that's been ruining video games ever since.

Emerald Dragon for the SNES is probably worth checking out. It got translated back in 2014. You can definitely tell they were sorta trying to rip off Lunar when they made it.

Titanfall.
I will never forgive EA and modern Respawn.

I want a Black & White 3 or remaster. That game was fun and technologically advanced for its time (the way your animal pets learned behaviours used a pretty complex neural net for its time)

The Creatures series is one me and my brother love, particularly Creatures 2. The norns in the game could "learn" from how they interacted from their environment and you could teach them words and actions by typing, and they'd remember. You could also use them to explore the rest of their world and uncover new biomes and other creatures (called ettins and grendels).

The developers went on to work for projects like Google's Deepmind IIRC and the creator of the game, to this day is still fiddling with neural nets and trying to create something that stands alone from ChatGPT and other "intelligent" neural nets.

Imagine if games like that were made with current tech.

Breath of Fire series, loved 3 and 4.
too bad Capcom decided to revive Okami instead.
3 was the best. 4 was ok but starting to decline. You could tell because the dragon combat system had literally no thought put into it. 5 was just plain bizarre and I’ve never played 6 because it was never released in the U.S., is now defunct and was a POS P2W (probably) Chinese mobile trash game.

However if you haven’t heard there is a “spiritual successor” to the BoF series: Tears of Magic

It really feels like we’ll be playing another BoF 3 soon. Hopefully Crapcom doesn’t cease and desist the project as these once glorious game publishers love to do.

I just picked up a GB300 handheld for peanuts ($17cdn, like $14usd) to have in my pocket on long waits and have been considering BoF 1 and 2 as they are included in the GBA romset pre installed. Never played anything in the series but I love me some Shining Force. Think it's a good choice to get into?

The BOF series was just pure awesome 90’s JRP at its best. It didn’t over complicate things like the more recent final fantasy games. Some quality of life improvements could have been made. I don’t want to spoil it too much for you but you probably won’t like the dragon system in BOF 2 where all forms are just one time summon spells that drain all your AP (ability points aka mana). But 3’s was perfect.

If you get to 5, prepare for some disappointment.

Good shit, thank you. Ima start the first one after dinner when I'll have some peace and quiet time to couch flop.
This little handheld is so cute, the size and shape of a Gameboy color and with custom firmware emulates a fuckton of 8 and 16 bit systems as well as the 32 bit GBA and MAME out of the box

If you wanna play 3 and 4, the best PSX emulator is “Duckstation”. Since 5 was on PS2, the best emulator for that would be “PCSX2” by Nightly.

Yea you can play them in 2k with other graphical improvements although the default textures will still be low resolution. Both have full controller support. I use an Xbox controller on my PC for it.
