Why does fatrick larp as a conservative when all he does is repeat dnc talking points
Because being right wing and/or "conservative" is still seen as being very masculine and "manly" by many people. People still have subconscious tendencies to view things a certain way and despite everything like "muh tahxic masculinity," men want to be seen as manly, including lefties. Someone who is taught that being manly in a traditional way is bad will latch onto "symbols" of masculinity as a way to claim it.
That is why soymales like to keep super long, unkempt beards because they think beard = male = big manly.
So for Patrick, who really really wants to have a super badass manly man man tough guy image, he can definitely muster up enough cognitive dissonance to justify using the "conservative" label.
I have a theory about this.
My theory is that Pat is a deeply closeted homosexual, and that's not a shitpost.
I've talked about this before, but Pat is fucking
desperate to show how masculine and manly he is. But he doesn't understand masculinity at all, only superficial, symbolic things about masculinity. Rather than display and appreciate what "real men"
are, he fixates on what he thinks "real men"
have and what he thinks they
do. All these things are based on media stereotypes, which is why they are so shallow. Motorbikes, guns, drinking, fighting, conservatism, an 80's action movie idea of what manhood is. We know that Pat's dad was a very macho guy and that his brother and cousin were very successful in very masculine careers. There is no doubt his father mocked him for being lispy and effeminate, which is why he is on a mission to prove to the world and himself that he's a conservative, macho man.
But of course Pat doesn't understand conservative, masculine guys at all. Being a "real man" means sacrificing whatever you need to to help your children to adulthood, whereas Pat abandoned his child to spend more time drinking. Being a "real man" means paying your debts, Pat tried to run away from his. Being an "actual tough guy" involves using your strength to de-escalate conflict and protect your loved ones, not threatening people then running away like a little bitch. Being a "real man" involves backing down if continuing a conflict risks putting your family in danger, whereas Pat, by his own admission, has put Nikki and his parents in harm's way because he's too stubborn to take basic steps to protect them. Pat just thinks that if he employs the outward symbols of masculinity - muscle cars, guns, motorbikes and the like, people will think he's a "real man".
And of course Pat sees "conservatism" as part of that macho, straight male ideal that he tries to live up to. But of course Pat doesn't understand conservatism. He only understands its media symbols - guns, muscle cars, "toughness", but he cannot grasp what makes conservative men tick - you just have to read his Twitter ramblings to see that - conservatives may as well be Martians for all he understands why they believe what they believe. It's a cargo-cult understanding of conservatism, just as it is a cargo-cult understanding of masculinity - draping yourself in the symbols of a thing does not make you that thing, no matter how many you adopt.
Pat doesn't understand masculinity, which is why he can't effectively embody it. Why can't he embody conservative heterosexuality like he claims? Because he is a liberal gay man. The one thing we can all acknowledge that Pat is an Olympic-level genius at is denial. You can present all the proof you want that he is incorrect, he'll just go "nuh-uh, child". He insists that all his detractors are going to Enjoy Prison, despite him not even being able to get so much as a TRO against one who travelled halfway across the country to fight him. His denial armour is impregnable. Facts simply cannot penetrate it. Why is he so good at being in denial? Because he's been denying his own sexuality since puberty. Just listen to the man and his effeminate mannerisms and high-pitched, squeaky voice. There's drag queens out there who are less effeminate than Pat. His dad called him a queer when he was 12, and that was the first "no child". His first marriage failed when Adrienne realised what she had been missing in the bedroom - a man who was actually attracted to her. Losing Adrienne and his daughter was the worst thing that ever happened to Pat, and it was the trigger for his mental breakdown. Not because he loved her, but because he had lost his wife and daughter, his two strongest symbols of his heterosexuality and masculinity. That was when the denials became psychotic and all-encompassing. Then he met Nikki, an equally closeted lesbian, and in entering into a Lavender Marriage, they were able to maintain their pretences of heterosexuality with their respective parents and the public at large. No wonder Pat spends a lot of time at that cruising gym and is "into things". He's gay. A queer. A fag. A Fat Faggot With Bitch Tits.
