I don't know much about Grenada but family who were in the military at the time have always said the US just needed an excuse to give out medals and practical experience to the next generation of military brass after the Vietnam-era people had all retired. I totally believe that.
No offense, but your family members are wrong as fuck. I had dudes in my unit who were directly involved in it, as in on the ground. Dude in 54th Combat Engineers I knew was the one who got the Bronze Star for Valor and the Combat Jump wings, and he fucking deserved it.

If you take a look even at Wikipedia, you'll notice some REALLY interesting things.

As the operation to hit Beruit and Lebanon was gearing up, as in the gear was being loaded onto the C5 Galaxies, every unit was suddenly given stand-down orders. Every ready unit and Rapid Response Battalion suddenly went live, whether or not they had been involved in the Beruit planning.

This shit was so big that A-Team units in fucking EUROPE and TURKEY were told "Give them whatever they fucking want. Manpower, weapons, ammo, whatever they want. Blank check. Do it."

When the US went in, the general in charge of the whole thing was given authorization for the following order: "Feed me battalions until I say stop..."

There's some interesting pictures from the airfield if you look closely.

It already was an airbase at the time. Interesting thing: Soviet Spetz and Soviet troops defended the airfield tenaciously.

Grenada is an interesting case. The real story is fucking buried, but if you look closely at the units deployed, the way it yanked EVERYTHING to it, the way a few submarines got awards, you start to see an interesting picture.

It's EXTREMELY downplayed for a reason.

I'm confident that when Weinberger cooked up the Grenada invasion he absolutely wanted an excuse to spin up from a "military exercise" into something that at minimum looks like real action; and the CIA was feeding him a load of nonsense. Reagan gave him a blank check and while they all wrote in their memoirs that the UK Foreign Office was contacted, what is very public (and recorded on tape)... nobody told PM Thatcher in advance until it was already underway. Then Her Majesty was told as soon as it broke on television before she had a chance to see it, and she was furious.
Isn't that your first hint that something went on?

The UK foreign office was notified WHILE the planes were in the air and the ships were moving. The UK thought we were going to hit Beruit.

What really went down is a whole different ball game.

And at the time, the CIA wasn't trusted for dick by the US military, ESPECIALLY the Joint Chiefs at the time. Everyone knew the CIA was dicksucking traitorous cowards.

So, yeah, your confidence is completely wrong.

Yeah, tell you what... you believe whatever revisionist crap you want. I'll go with what was on the ground.

Grenada was communist. This is fact, the commies took it over.

The reason they didn't break off the Commonwealth as soon as they got in power was exactly to avoid being Bay of Pigs'd and to try and stay around. It does mean that for a brief moment in history Monarcho-Communism was a thing.

It is not a big leap to see how they might then turn around and like Cuba spread their legs for the USSR.
I'm not disputing that, but the escalation over the airfield and the hostages were CIA cook-ups. Could have just blockaded the island and NFZ'd it and they would have capitulated in less than a month. A smattering of other Caribbean leaders made some waves about Grenada junta forces popping up in rubber dinghys on their shores but their real concern was about political continuity and seeing someone--anyone--step in and stop marxist takeovers. IIRC the most concern was coming from Jamaica.

It was an easy, almost riskless weekend un-coup for US forces, although not to the level of excitement to the American public as the Falkland War was for the brits.

We'd repeat this feat later in Panama.

I'm not buying , at least not the ''CNN was aware, or warned to tune in to that specific rally''
That's WAY too risky, needs 1 well connected person in the know to get everyone involved hanged for treason, if the hit suceeds.

Imo the most likely reasons they were showing that specific rally was because
a) they wanted to ''factcheck'' it in real time, maybe add a bit of extra Project 25 is actually nazi, for realsies to fire up their people
b) they know they can't show any BIden activity without sinking him further, so the solution is hoping for a major trump fumble.
c) it was the last rally going into the RNC, so a good segue into it.

Grenada had a population of about 100k. More people fit in an average SEC football stadium.

Josh Shapiro, current Gov of PA, fixed the I-95 overpass collapse in 12 days and put the flags at half mast for Corey Comperatore. He is literally all they have. Yup! A white (Jewish) guy.

There's Andy Beshear in Kentucky, he's somewhat young (age 46) and has been voted in twice despite being in a red state, which has gone strongly for Trump in 2016 and 2020. Though he might be too bland to catch any attention on the national stage.

This is a great way to phrase it. I won't sperg about my personal views on abortion, but realpolitik is that abortion is the states' purview, and making it a part of the platform of the national party is a no-win. This is also why, as Trump said in the rally today, that the MAGA Party is for all races, all creeds, all colors, and all religions, as long as you love America and uphold its values.

Trump's going in very hard on the idea of the GOP being a real big tent party, it's just been him pushing back the neocons and bad actors.

More medals were awarded for Grenada than the actual number of troops deployed.

In response to questions, the Army said it awarded 275 decorations for valor, for combat deaths or wounds. Beyond that, it said, it gave out 8,337 medals for individual performance. These included 4,581 commendation medals, 2,495 achievement medals, 681 Bronze Stars and a variety of other decorations.

Again, Grenada's total population in 1984 was about 100,000.

I'm sure your friend tells everybody the same story about his Bronze Star, that's why they gave it to him.

There’s nothing wrong with being governor of a major state. It’s equally important to the conservative movement as any other role. No small parts, only small actors.

And frankly, he screwed himself out of it. And that lack of political acumen isn’t something we need from POTUS. Especially not while this current war rages on.
deSantis would have been a great president in the 1990s or even in an early 2000s where there was no 9/11 to fuck us up. He's not built for it though. I like having him as governor here. I'm sooo glad I moved to FL.

…What really went down is a whole different ball game.

This Grenada rambling is very interesting to me and I would love to know more if you could point me in the right direction.

Only thing I’ve ever seen to doubt the official story is the caches of weapons found on Grenada after occupation. There were more AKs than natives iirc.

incremental abortion measures, or the parade of gay marriage ban state bills, and their last big disaster brought by the Heritage Foundation: the tranny bathroom bill defeats. They sat there mired in all that shit while Rome burned.
I think the tranny bathroom bills were 5 years before their time because the lunacy with bathtub HRT and the Loudoun County school district rapemonster hadn't started yet.

But especially for abortions, everyone is just so fucking tired of hearing about it for the past forever amount of years. It's a poison pill for many voters and I understand completely why Trump dropped le abortion ban from the RNC platform. Pro-life and pro-choice activists, who have made the issue of abortion literally their entire personality, have taken over the discourse. Now the only 2 choices left are forcing women to birth deformed 3 chromosome incest rape babies or executing children after birth. As someone who thinks as many abortions as possible should be prevented, I also understand that my relative who had an ectopic pregnancy and found out late would have died without one.

What the CIA was really telling Weinberger no-one of course knows, which is the advantage of a JCS has where he isn't as shackled. He sits above the whole CIA's level in the pecking order. I have a feeling that shit will never get declassified.

And given how often (and how incompetently) the CIA plants press leaks, it's not like much of the reporting from government analysts about Grenada could ever hope to be accurate. The weakest fish story that was shopped to the press was over the airfield. Few in the press could have any authority to validate the US's claims, so it just sat there... take it or leave it.

At least the UK Foreign Office was on board with the invasion.

Wasn't the Beshears (family) pretty well-respected in KY? That's probably the only reason he's still governor.

So they are gonna let Cheatle "resign" and disappear into another 3 letter agency and get away scott free. Classic government.
I believe SOP is that the night before the subpoena, she becomes so overwhelmed with grief over her massive and obvious failure that she ends up killing herself with two gunshots to the back of the head.

More medals were awarded for Grenada than the actual number of troops deployed.
That also covers Army Commendation Medals and Army Achievement Medals, as well as the same low level medals for the Navy. The Air Force also did the same thing. The Bronze Star bit is pretty much what officers get for walking by an active zone, as shown by Desert Storm, Panama, and the War on Terror.

Units in CONUS and Europe had members running missions as fast as they could, and the people that took part on the more critical ones got ARCOM and AAM's handed out to them. That's not unusual for out of theater medals to get awarded. Over 7K troops were in Grenada for the fighting, not counting the guys providing support in CONUS and Europe. Some of the Europe guys worked for 48-72 hours straight loading critical gear.
This was written by someone who doesn't understand how the medal award system works.

Some of the people provided support worked for 72 hours straight.

Again, Grenada's total population in 1984 was about 100,000.

I'm sure your friend tells everybody the same story about his Bronze Star, that's why they gave it to him.
Considering the events were covered in the Stars & Stripes, it was pretty well documented. He was one of the team that landed on the airfield and had to clear it before virtually anyone else had landed.

It was actually a pain in his ass. See, he was too young for The Nam, but he was allowed a combat patch and had combat jump wings. He had to wear them on his BDUs, which meant it wasn't uncommon for older SNCOs and Officers to call him out, leading to him basically carrying copies of the orders around in his pocket in case some SGM wanted to call him out. It wouldn't be worth the trouble to lie about it for a BSV and a patch.

Trump’s new Republican Party platform is a big slap in the face to the religious right, and to that I say… good. They already had their day in the sun, and they squandered it moralfagging about video games, rock music and Dungeons and Dragons and turning an entire generation of young people against the church. Their methods have not only proven ineffective, but in fact have been actively detrimental to the causes they claim to serve.

Trump understands that the only hope for the Republican Party is to wash away the stink of it being the party of white Christians. Doesn’t mean they can’t still have a seat at the table, they just need to know their place that they’re not the ones calling the shots anymore.

The Secret Service throwing accusations of misogeny from "conservative social media" is peak clown world hilarity.

Woman, you FAILED! The former president was spared from death by a literal act of God, a divine MALE figure I might add. You have NO right to try to throw insults back at us. If you had a dick, you WOULD be forced to resign and you would be lucky to have any resemblence to a career ever again. But because you dont, you are invited to leave and you proudly refuse, showing you refuse to truly take any responsibility.

The "secret service" is now the "open circus"
