All attempts to make the best of a bad situation are going to instantly go up in flames once the different factions (progressives, id-pols, leftists, establishments, moderates) realize that all bets are off and there is a chance to shove someone through who wouldn't normally have a chance. You'll have id-pol fems arguing "her turn", race mongers doing the same. You'll have the more straight progs arguing for the most holy of believers. You'll have leftists pushing. Moderates pushing for left/prog lites.. All while the establishment tries to enact a plan of their own.

I really don't know about that, who wants to stay in Trump's line of fire as a lame duck replacement within a party that has shown no restraint or qualms in publicly destroying their own? To step forward right now is to assume a 90% risk of destroying your political career for a 10% chance of becoming the mainstay.

I can only see this move as a desperate bid by far-leftists who don't even care about the traditional party divide and internal party politics. Think DSA members, who are only in the Dems because it's the only way for them to be electable. But for very obvious reasons, the establishment would not try to find and advance America's equivalent of Jeremy Corbyn. They would never accept fielding some untested commie with a metapolitical agenda. And forget about a Bernie compromise, Bernie is old as shit too.

The only class of people I can see who would venture something like this and not be immediately shunned are those who don't have anything to lose by entering politics. The Michelle Obamas and Taylor Swifts of the world. The latter would be exceedingly funny, and although it's such a remote possibility I so wish they would do it.
