It's Kerala, a progressive socialist state with limited corruption, free education, good roads, beautiful scenery, etc. I don't know the history of it, or its relations to the other states. I have talked somewhat with women from there, and they seem well educated and normal; but victims of typical indian abuse/misogyny etc as they often have to still work in a capital city outside of Kerala. I also knew one guy from there, and besides being flakey, he also seemed well educated and normal.

I do suspect Indians from other states resent it. Indians from the north comment on how they are surprised at the road quality in the south of India, and how the roads seem corruption free - they actually have proper reflective coatings rather than imitation paint. However, north indians seem resentful of the south, and when pressed upon why, they just give typical tourist trap answers... which aren't condemning the state, just tourist traps.
