Not really. They probably have a Joe soundboard already made and have recruited the world's best "JC Denton calls a Chinese restaurant" channel operators to ensure it is believable.

You salute every officer and some civilians above you in the chain of command. You also salute the flag of the country and some other stuff. It's heavily dependent on time and place, whether or not you pass close enough to the guy, eye contact, etc. If somebody like the secretary of defense shows up the highest ranking officer around normally salutes him; lower ranks may or may not salute. Basically, don't salute a guy with stripes in his rank. Salute everyone else just in case. Salute all Medal of Honor winners; it's not required but it's expected.

True story, I got coffee for saluting a Sergeant Major. Me and my buddy were guarding a gate. A Sergeant Major drives up, bud goes over to check his ID and immediately salutes him. I see my buddy saluting and I salute as well despite knowing you don't salute a Sergeant Major. My bud says he thinks he saw the Medal of Honor ribbon (a little rectangle deal that goes on the ribbon rack) on the guy's chest. A few hours later Sergeant Major drives back up, stops his car, and gets out with some coffee cups in his hands. Said me and my bud were the only gate guards who had ever saluted him. Motherfucking Medal of Honor winning Sergeant Major hand delivered coffee to us for saluting him!

And the flag goes to half mast for lots of shit. Don't mean the fucking president died. If Biden really died Kamala would've been sworn in immediately. If he was at death's door Kamala would be nearby ready to be sworn in as soon as possible. Commander-in-Chief is a matter of national security. If the cockamamie shit you people suggest was really happening the United States would be extremely vulnerable and could be nuked at any ti. . .

You're right, if they did fake it, this is more likely how they did it. But I still don't believe it just because I can't think of any reason why they would bother. The risk of scandal outweighs the nonexistent benefit. The first move after the president dies is to swear in the vice-president in order to ensure that there is someone running the country. If Biden was dead, that would mean that Kamala is already acting President and pretending not to be. Or, even more implausibly, that there is currently no President of the United States. That would be a huge security risk and would be a scandal so serious that the Secret Service thing would look minor in comparison.
