Yeah, they backed off on the Trump suicide claims pretty quickly once they became aware those claims were being looked into and GLAAD called for people to stop repeating unsubstantiated claims. You can only be the original source of bullshit so many times before people question the veracity of everything you say.

They address stuff of dubious veracity which is gaining/has already gained traction. They also generally limit their role to verifying the facts, leaving the issue of how and why perpetrators would benefit from hoaxes/scams to others.

Which is exactly what the problem with this idea is.

There is no rule on this planet saying to you have to be in same situation as the party you are trying to counsel.

It definitely helps in some cases, but any reasonably empathetic human being capable of holding their own emotions together while helping someone else do the same could do this sort of job.

Unfortunately, even if Greta managed to waive this idiotic "you have to be a trans to speak to other trans people" nonsense entirely, the problem is that this is a scam operation playing at legitimacy from the top down, so even hiring honest people who want to help trans people step away from the cliff of suicide is doomed because this operation is run by an incompetent grifter who only gives a shit about lining their own pockets and being able to virtue signal.

I still like the idea and find it's most basic premise admirable, but the one putting into play is a violent con artist taking advantage of the emotionally vulnerable for their own gain.

There's def something to be said for some detachment in that kind of field. An untrained person, in a similar situation could work as a problem amplifier if they start feeding off of one another.
