The problem in all these situations is that cops do not have a real time with pause combat system where they can evaluate all the details. It might just be warm water. It might be boiling water. It might be boiling water with something worse. Is it likely? Doesn't matter, in a split second decision are you going to assume nothing but the best intentions from someone who was told to do a thing, and then proceeded to do the exact opposite of that thing in an aggressive manner at you? Maybe its just boiling water, and maybe the burns won't be that bad, but while you're on the ground screaming from your exposed skin blistering and burning, what's she gonna do next, and can you stop it?

For every retarded nog we have getting shot in the face because the police assumed the worse about their safety and got it wrong, we have stuff like that one bodycam of the officer getting his throat cut out for assuming the best in someone and getting too close. If you disagree with the polices orders, the proper place to object is after the fact. Welcome to a monopoly on force - They are legally allowed to be hostile, you are legally not, and compliance is not a polite request, it is an expectation they will enforce with that monopoly. In a world without retards, this sorta shit happens far less.

I think the difference in this case is that the cops could have reasonably deescalated the situation. There was a counter between them, the woman was small and likely couldn't have thrown the water that far, they were close to the door. When she dropped to the ground they could have backed away instead of closing in on her.

I agree cops shouldn't have to assume good will from someone with a weapon (pot of boiling water is 110% a weapon), but they didn't need to do that. There was an easy alternative to shooting her in the head where no one would have been hurt, and they didn't take it. That's the real issue imo.

I’ve seen psych ward staff that could’ve handled the situation better. But instead of boiling water as a weapon, I’ve seen chem cocktails.

Granted I’ve seen staff with broken limbs and scalped hair from patients. Difference being staff didn’t have a gun.

As a former wagie psych tech who switched to the trades because wagie psych techs get paid walmart money to clean human shit off of walls at 3am and work at "hospitals" that think locking a suicidal teenager in an empty, windowless room and ignoring them for a week will improve their mental health, I can confirm that even we had much better de-escalation skills than that cop, who very clearly murdered that woman.
