While I am not a Christian, there are millions of people like Nick who claim to possess the “authentic” version of my religion — which conveniently discards the foundational texts, principles and literal laws of that religion. So I completely relate to the disgust and anger over Nick hijacking something sacred and weaponizing it to feed his ego. Nick and his ilk are full of shit and full of themselves.

Christianity is a millennia-old brand that is popular in homes like the ones Kayla, April and many of his audience members were raised in. Let’s face it, many people who consider themselves Christians don’t know anything about scripture, or maybe know just enough to make them feel like they’ve made an informed choice to adopt the religion of their ancestors. (That’s not a knock on Christianity but on such people. All religions have them, but we’re talking about St. Balldo now.)

Nick thinks he’s so fucking smart and slick that he can leverage the sentimentality people feel for their tradition and convince them he has the “REAL Christianity” — of which all the other dummies in their families and friend groups are completely unaware. This is a useful way for Nick to fulfill his need to feel superior to others and to further alienate those he influences from their loved ones. He needs them to believe he is the only one who tells them the truth, so that they will increasingly look only to him for guidance and wisdom.

I would urge anyone interested in this aspect of Nick’s degeneracy to read up on cult leaders like Charlie Manson and David Koresh. You’ll see a lot more of Nick in them than you might have expected.
