Something can be authorial intent AND deeply embarrassing at the same time. In Kojima's case, it's usually less about sex itself and more about treating sex with all the maturity of a 14-year-old boy in the same cutscene as a diatribe about the horrors of child soldiers in the third world.

Sticking with cartridges was a terrible business decision in the 1990s, but it was a great decision for collectors, since carts don't decay at nearly the rate CDs do. The N64 was close to being an amazing system, but between the carts, the bad memory architecture, the terrible early ucodes, and Nintendo treating 3rd parties like shit, it will forever be the "what could have been" console.

Bayo was on the WiiU. The wii had an okay library but far too many games replaced their basic attacks with waggle input. Not motion controls but wiggle just replacing button presses.

I am once again amending things I said in the past to avoid misinformation and to improve clarity.
After a lot of research and discussion, here are my findings:

Epic Online Services (EOS) is a thing that many developers use to do things such as having a cross-platform multiplayer back-end without creating one from scratch.
Many games on Steam have this.
Apparently, there are two different kinds of it: A simple kind which, for instance, uses Steam itself as the identity provider (e.g. this Steam account is verifiably a Steam account) and just handles connections between players and/or servers, and a more complicated kind with extra user or account authorization. The former is very easily implemented without any additional installs just by means of libraries.

This gives games EOS functionality without any installs required - and the games would silently create pseudo "accounts" so that the player would never need to visibly authenticate or log in anywhere.

As it stands, Sandlot (EDF publisher) made at least 4 fuck-ups:
  1. EOS is used in the console version to enable PS4-PS5 crossplay. The EOS on PC enables crossplay between......... Steam and Epic Games Store (EGS). That's it. For the, what, 4 people who buy on EGS instead of Steam. Apparently this is required if you choose to sell a game on the EGS, presumably so that multiplayer isn't simply dead on arrival. So far, this is not egregious on its own, but compounded with...
  2. Instead of using EOS Game Services, like everybody else does, they used EOS Epic Account Services. And they did it in a way that presents you a log-in to your face and installs EOS as a standalone application and service. There is no functional need for the things that an EOS standalone installation adds, such as an overlay.
    Because of just how integrated this standalone EOS is in the game, the game will literally fail to launch if EOS isn't installed (files are missing).Also, congratulations if you're using a VPN or if you're EOS banned. You can't play the game. This is already dogshit, but compounded with...
  3. They fucked up internally and, ingame, the game speaks of "Epic Games account". This leads many people to believe that this is related to EGS. Of course, people are fucking upset. Imagine buying something on EGS, only for it to ask you for a Steam account in order to be able to play it. This is already a fuckup, but compounded with the biggest and most dire fuck-up of it all....
  4. They did not disclose any of this at any point before the launch of the game. According to SteamDB, the game launched on July 25, 7:13 AM UTC. The Steam store page only got updated with the 3rd-Party Account (EOS) requirement on 11:20 AM UTC, presumably after an outpour of negative reviews.
    Pre-orders have been available since June 25 if I am not mistaken.
The good news is that, other than really shitty EN voice acting, it seems to be the best game in the series.
Also, pirated copies with online fix can play multiplayer together with pirated copies. However, an install of EOS is required in order to be able to launch the game.

If you cannot fluently switch between bottom button confirms and right button confirms when you change platforms then you are way too lame to be a real gamurr.

I don't get all the hate around Epic Game Store. It mostly feels like valve's PR team trying to stifle the competition on a far less invasive installer that doesn't have chickenshit forum moderators running rampant banning paying customers and a far more welcoming attitude toward aspiring indies without the unfiltered heap of garbage that steam has pretty much always been. Since they have every motivation to do so.

It's mostly Epic being very bare bones and lacking basic features like a basket or wishlist. Even online storefronts run by comically incompetent companies like Ubisoft or EA have those.

Them snapping up exclusives also rubs people the wrong way but it's mostly the actual tech being shit and unintuitive.

There are a lot of nuanced details to go into about why Epic and their launcher sucks, even if you use an alternate launcher like Heroic and only play free games.
