Why has Null put the join dates back?

The problem with registration dates is that it makes new users not want to sign up for the site, it makes them not want to contribute, and it divides the forum's userbase. None of these are conducive to a healthy website.

Speaking as a 2024 registration date newGOD: I had lurked on this site and watched the podcast for several years before biting the bullet and making an account. One of the things that made me hesitant to register, before I did in May (when they weren't around), was registration dates. Why would I want to sign up for a site that punishes me for making an account?

Everyone with a post-2021 registration date essentially has a permanent pink triangle affixed to their account. It doesn't matter if your posts are generally welcome contributions to a thread, or if you're a dumb faggot that shitposts constantly, if your registration date is bright pink and visible next to all of your posts, people will automatically profile you as "stupid newfag, will never be One Of Us™, ignore their posts." This doesn't happen if they have to click your name to see your registration date instead, like they did a couple of days ago.

If anyone in this thread remembers when Something Awful was relevant, you'll recall it has this feature where anyone who signs up has this as their profile picture,
stupid newbie.jpg
and they can't change it for a year. For 365 days, all of their posts are tainted by the fact that they're a stupid newbie, regardless of quality. Like many of Lowtax's decisions, this was (and is) stupid. I am not going to pay $5 to sign up to post on a forum so I can be called a stupid newbie by oldfag losers with accounts made before the Cambrian explosion. This forum may be free, but the same basic principle applies here.

@Null, this is a dumb change, and the only thing it adds to the Farms is a caste system. This website should generally strive to be less like India whenever possible, not more. Please go back to eating pizza instead of curry. Thank you.

Bro, it's just the color of your join date. It means absolutely nothing. Lmao.

Because the color is pink?
I mean, the color association certainly doesn't help. If all of the registration dates were light grey or white or some other neutral color, it'd be less of an issue, but that wouldn't solve the core problem of dividing the userbase into cliques based on seniority.

My opinion is biased, but I think people should be judged by the quality of their posts, not how old their account is, and having the registration date visible underneath everyone's profile picture poisons the well when you're looking at a post made by someone with a newer account.

It's creating a problem when there wasn't one a week ago.
this is a pretty good idea ngl

Race traitors, both of you. Shame. Shaaame.

I was going to go point by point on your post but it's not worth it because the main take away is that you are putting waaaaayyy too much thought into, on average, how join dates are perceived. Newfags get bullied for their behavior, for not reading, for being annoying, for failing to learn and understand the site culture, etc. I see enough of 2024 join dates who make competent, comedic and contributive posts who aren't bullied for that little pink date under their name.
Touch grass, faggot.
Get better material.
