Do the Democrats and the media just expect Trump to debate a conveyor belt's worth of candidates until they can find one who can remotely "handle" him in a debate?

During 2020, there was a bit of a dissapointment feeling regarding Trump (and even then he almost won) and nowadays, given all the current happenings, the 2016 feeling is back.

(I think that at least one debate is going to happen between the two of them, by the way. Democrats don't have a choice after the Biden's disastrous debate performance. The Democrats need a debate, and they need to win that debate. With Kamala, that is indeed an uphill battle.)

When that debate happens Trump is going to have it be on his terms. The debate with Biden was all but on Biden's terms after all and he can easily point to that.

This is a very good point. Somewhere along the way, standing for free market capitalism became, for many republicans, standing for big successful businesses to the detriment of anyone else.
Trump’s populism is exceptionally healthy for the party to cure that, because it’s really anathema to what conservativism is. The whole reason free markets became so important is because a lot of evidence suggests they’re the best way to make life better for everyone.

Part of currents year's feelings is based on the past.

2016 to 2019 (not counting the diabolus ex machina that was the wuflu) was pretty uneventful. Which is not bad, since things didnt get worse. Orange Man was a very mediocre president.

2020 to 2024 have been disasters. Our borders are shit, our economy is shit, and two literal wars have broken out during Democrat watch. Biden has been terrible.

As we come into the 2024 elections, people see the stable mediocrity of Trump and the dumpster fire that is Biden, and kind of want to see the funny Orange Man back in office.

To say it has no basis in reality is to say that the polls are wrong, but only when they don’t support what you want them to. And absent evidence that they’re wrong (e.g. data showing polling has historically overestimated Trump polling with blacks)

You might actually be right on that one. I’ve thought for a while that the only way the site goes down is if the owner gets compromised. A scenario where a user gets doxed internally because a favourite honey trap girl has a chimp out and demands it , or a gradual ‘become unbearable’ like 4chan is how I’d do it (were I to be charged with such a thing, which thankfully I am not.) hopefully dear leader is aware of such manipulation techniques and guards against them.
