Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

@Null RARE Comicsgate drama as Marvel has started to add PHYSICAL DRM to their printed comics by censoring their last page of each new comic with a QR CODE that people have to scan to actually see the last page of the comic they paid on Marvel's digital comics publishing platform. They're """only""" doing this for 1st issues for now, no mention on how long hosting on Marvel web services for these DRM locked comic pages will last....

TLDR: to avoid "spoilers" marvel is now locking the final page of each x-men issue behind a QR code which you scan and pulls up the final page. The final page is just a normal static image which serves as the cliffhanger or shoe drop hook for the next issue as is common in comics. The stated reason for this is to stop any leaks of issues from their suppliers or stores before they go on sale or "MUH PIRACY" via scanlation as is common in Japanese Manga consumption in western countries. MacFarlane/ laird & Eastman were able to propel their comics to toy juggernauts by actually making product like books on time. Turtles started at 84 as an edgy daredevil inspired pulp comic. It wasn't until 87 that they went to the more sentai route, and the toyline didn't happen until 1988. And the toys didn't cost 45.99 targeting adults, at most it was 10.99 for children which kept the franchise alive.

Where does evs think he can do the super7/neca scale line without even making the books or offering a toyline to children, oh wait, children don't like all caps, it's mostly grown men who lack father figures who is willing to buy this 45.99 garbage, guess what? The kids got the whole first wave the moment they went to the local kb toys, not crowdfund waiting 4 years for the 3rd issue.

I'm glad Eric is waiting on his universe being established before he even thinks about doing a toyline.

My computer is so Old, reg edited, and unhackable, it won't let me clip images. Sorry for Format but I found this comment exchange on Reignbrow brute interesting. @FROG would be better off ignoring the discussion sections than trying to defend 5 year old campaigns

You’re welcome but I not backing anything else as I think your take on “crowdfunding” is abusive if not an outright scam. Clearly you are abusing the system with ridiculous delays and you have no consideration/respect for your backers/fans.

EVS, I’m not looking for “clout” I could careless about clout on your Indiegogo page. I’m for delivery after 4 years of waiting. Then you announce action figures you want me to buy. You have to sh*tting me.
I like you EVS. I think you’re a talented artist but a sh*t business je*k. Look, offer a 50% coupon or discount for your “action figure” or a “free unicorn” with every Brute purchase.
Get creative, creative – we’re going on year 5 here.
as for Rekt Planet – I gave it a very good review.

Thanks for backing this campaign! The books are in progress, and will ship at the same time as these action figures. It'll be very exciting! Sorry that I can't offer you a discount. This is crowdfunding, not sales. Thank you again.

Less, actually. The figures themselves were $4.99 plus tax. I remember this well because I bought them with my allowance money. I had all four turtles, Bebop, Rocksteady, Casey Jones, Baxter Stockman, some random-ass foot soldier, and a few others.

Stuff like the turtle van and blimp was way more expensive, and I had to ask for on Christmas, but they were the outlier.

Man, I wish I still had them. 80s and 90s TMNT was the shit.

And even a usa inflation calculator said the toys would cost 13 dollars today. So inflation is no excuse either

I think it comes down to a number of reasons why CG is failing:
  • Lack of interesting books
  • Shitty personalities of CG creators
  • late shipping of books
  • infighting amongst CG
  • lack of promotion within CG
  • constant EJ bitching
People are tired of this shit now, they need to make books and stfu. The constant schadenfreude from grown ass men is tiring. I've only backed 2 indies in the past 3 months because most of the active campaigns aren't interesting or fun, or I have to wait until November to receive. F that.

Books aren't funding like they used to because of all the infighting and dirty dealings, which have shrunk our backer base dramatically. As much as Reethan's Pay Piggies will insist that drama is GOOD for CG, it's not. Drama doesn't sell books; it drives away customers. What drama IS good for is SUPERCHATS, and Reethan sure is racking those up since going full BLACK MAN BAD.

Each creator, or clique, brings their own unique customers. To not waste anyone's time reading a vagina monologue, it was pretty fucking gay to push creators out and creating bogeymen out of them with labels (dungeoneers, rippatards, etc) and not expect their customers to walk away as well. Sometimes creators just need to, i don't know, as Todd McFarlane said, STAY IN THEIR OWN LANES.
