Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

In other Disney animation. Hailey's on it is being removed from the main Disney Channel and is now only on plus and xD which is essentially the network's way of saying, "its not getting a second season." The show essentially ends with a cliffhanger and the entire premise unresolved....and Scott the Bff NOT getting the girl.

Guess the happiest place on earth can't be happy all the time.

Ironically hamster and gretel the "better " of the two IS getting a new season.

First few episodes of Disney's Primos have been uploaded to YouTube.
The first video has a likes/dislike ratio of 905/2.1k whilst the second video has a like/dislike ratio of 471/157.

Part of me wants to think that viewers are getting less tolerant of this kind of garbage but unless that second video's dislike count rises exponentially it won't really change much. That and you still have those damned "forever children" saying on social media that they can't wait to watch it and staunchly defending it from people saying it's a racist garbage from the Chicano section of Latino society that nobody really likes.

If you ask me Hailey's On It! was kind of a "last breath" for shows like The Owl House and Amphibia, I never really had any hope for it getting a second season due to the Mouse wanting to move away from that kind of programming and embracing shows that are more easily syndicated.

I think the biggest issue animation is facing right now is that they stopped doing cartoons for children years ago, and now they are seemingly exclusively targeting man children for some reason. All major networks are guilty of this, but Disney might be the worst offender.

Don't get me wrong. There's a place for adult cartoons and edgy shit. I am personally fond of Smiling friends. I just think it's a little creepy seeing adults in salivating about The Owl house or Steven Universes, all while children are being ignored because they are invading their spaces

Say all you want about Teen Titans Go and the endless Sponge Bob episodes, at least they are made for real children. Not Disney adults.

Your typical cal arts show made by woke idiots for the twitter woman/man children crowd that pretend to be for kids are pure cancer and the real reason children's western animation is dying.

I couldn't care less about them but I am glad that the new Fairly odd parents reboot and Bluey are aiming to entertain kids again.

To be blunt the twitter/reddit crowd needs to grow up.
Have you noticed how EVERY complaint about real kids shows like Teen Titans Go seems to just be about how it's not the same show they watched as kids? The "cartoon community" has a really, really, big problem with grown-ass men and women having the entertainment pallet of a 10 year old and demanding that the shows made for that very same audience cater to themselves, too.

I'm not at all qualified to speak definitively about The Owl House because I haven't watched a single episode of it due to being in my damn twenties, BUT, everything I've seen about it seems so...artificial? The only people I see talk about it are Tumblr and Twitter, who the show feels like it's carefully designed to cater to by reusing over half the shit they had from Gravity Falls and Amphibia (I still don't know why they made the exact same show twice within a year or two of each other, I SWEAR I can not tell the difference without the frogs) and most of the discussion I can find about its main characters is just the fandom drooling over two chicks kissing.

I swear to god the only time I saw people talk about it outside of that specific bubble was some Youtuber talking about how lame its first season was. Even Steven Universe started off really damn strong before it became a cryingfest trying to do a story it had no idea how to do.

@Cave Fisher
TTG being spammed didn't help it's reputation any. There's room for serialised and episodic shows, but the main issue is that only the latter really gets coverage on places like YouTube. It tends to lead to the belief that there's only room for one kind of show. I personally like both, but unless it's something akin to Smiling Friends I lean towards a show with an ongoing story.

Oh yeah, there's tons of white-knighting to be found, especially from this guy...

Also funny to note how many things were changed between the original leak and the final product.

Name is still retarded. Hacienda is just the Spanish way to call a estate, read big ranch/plantation but I'm going to give credit on the fact there's one place called that near Vegas. If you wanted a legit made-up town in California with a sizeable Mexican population name you just have to pick of a Catholic saint (those were missions), a random city or town from Spain or a white af name like Stockton or Macfarlane.

Examples of each:
San Martin, San Charbel, Saint Jude Apostle (all favourites of Mexicans)
Huelva, Badajoz, Bilbao, Donostia, Salamanca (last one works because is also a town in Mexico, there aren't that many basque names in North America)
Pio Pico, last governor under Mexican rule. Rodriguez Cabrilho, the guy that discovered the fucking place. Romualdo Pacheco, only latino governor since conquest.
Go to the Wikipedia article for the Gold Rush and pick a guy or place name that isn't already used. There's a guy called Cincinnatus Heine Miller that choose to be called Joaquin.

It was actually quite hard to not come up with ideas and I'm not even a local.

In recent news, tomorrow, July 28th, we will be getting a massive Cartoon Network crossover with JellyStone titled "Crisis on Infinite Mirths". An obvious play on DC's "Crisis on Infinite Earths", this special will see the residents of JellyStone come into contact with Dexter, Dee Dee, the PPG, Mojo Jojo, Billy, Mandy and Grim.

Would assume that other CN characters will make an appearance. If I had to guess, Cow & Chicken would be an easy one given its history with Hannah Barbara. If they are ballsy, Johnny Bravo would also be an easy fit.

Edit - Confirmed characters:
  1. Johnny Bravo
  2. The Red Guy
  3. Robot Jones
  4. Samurai Jack
  5. An Adventure Time character
  6. A Regular Show character

There is also going to be one more season of Jellystone.

Not only is jellystone getting another season but it's also apparently they're also dragging the classic era through the mud too.

Also cartoon network? Nostalgia for your glory days can only take you so far. Having the past generations of characters meet in ok ko let's be heroes was kinda charming. Especially since it resolved a long running question of what happened to the cn city era? Which was practically a cn show in and of itself.

Doing it again and again between everything from ttg to this is really starting to wear out whatever charm crossover nexus had. It's like marvel constantly repeating the "I let Gwen Stacey die," or DC's "I let Barbara Gordon get paralyzed," pity card.

Hearing about this only reminds me of how much SOVL CN put together for their 20th anniversary bumpers 10 years back.
I wonder if they'll get all the OG VAs back for the characters too.

These supermegaultra crossover deluxes are so overdone it’s not even funny.

Please let them not fuck this up.
The /co/ thread claimed there is a leak and from it we know Bravo speaks, at the very least.

How the fuck could you possibly not fuck up Johnny Bravo in the current year that never ended?
C.H. Greenblatt is spearheading the project, so I have some hope. If they were really worried about his flirting, they can easily just portray the more middle-seasons version where he is just a himbo. All we really need is an acknowledgment of the Johnny and Jack friendship to make fans happy in this event.

CN is close to not existing by this point. I highly doubt Zazlav cares and is probably pushing the channel off a cliff as we speak. I say let Greenblatt, hopefully, create a nice send off.

I mean, he is also involved with Jellystone, which all i know off is that its full of self referential "wow aren't cartoons unrealistic?" humor, and turning characters into fags and trannies. And crossover slop aside, i am not looking up to them turning one of the PPG (most likely Buttercup, like they where planning to in that failed live action show) or Johnny Bravo gay.

To be fair to the rename they kind of just took Hacienda Heights (an unincorporated community in SoCal located near West Covina) and swapped out Heights for Hills, something that Terremoto Heights also did to some extent.

That said the show still props up the same animation trends, writing styles, and character designs that have been dominant in the industry since the mid 2010s even after they've become a shambling corpse.
The Red Guy
I'm not sure if this has been brought up before but this isn't the first time he's popped up in Jellystone, specifically back in Season 2.
If you're wondering why he sounds a little different here it's because Charlie Adler isn't voicing him (IIRC he's retired from most VA roles, the last time I heard him do VA work was in Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling), it's Dana Snyder.

turning characters into fags and trannies.
Fags yes as shazan and snagglepuss have been turned full blown gay thanks to this show.....trans is a bit more complicated.

The show runners did indeed gender swap a lot of characters like jabberjaw, augie doggie, and a few others but it's not like they were the original male characters now full on identifying as female. It's more a traditional gender swap that's been done in media before.

Mind you because current year, the baby blue pink and white mafia took what was a run of the mill AU gender swap and turned into "muh representation!"

To be fair to Snagglepuss the theory about him being gay due to his campy behavior isn't exactly new. It's also worth noting that it was DC Comics who said "fuck it" and wrote Snagglepuss as a gay playwright in their Exit, Stage Left!: The Snagglepuss Chronicles short-series comic book back in 2018.

It also doesn't help that some of the animators headcanon these characters as being trans, IIRC someone on staff did so for Jabberjaw whilst also trashing the original version.
