The Sims 4

Jesus, I know I keep making the joke that they (the industry) don't make video games anymore.. But they really don't make fucking video games anymore. Guess a decade of no reason to compete with each other does that to the industry, and no wonder considering that the industry only caters to cattle and greed. I just want to watch my virtual people do things, and laugh at the situations that come up. In the Sims 3, I once started a fire at my university dorm's shower, ended up killing one guy because he kept fucking fainting til he died and that was hilarious. Even playing the Gamecube port of the original sims, it was always funny to watch Sims go and interrupt who ever was bathing or pooping to say good bye.

I believe it was potentially an always online multiplayer type of deal (because focusing in on that for Sims 4 worked out so well) and likely would have had all the handicaps that Sims 4 has but worse, with mobile game levels of purse surfing. Which doesn't make this the saddest news in the world.

I don't think some players would mind having Sims 4 forever in the absence of competition/choice if bug fixes were more frequent, improvements were made where they could be consistently, and the DLC was worthwhile. There's content and systems I think a lot of people would not mind revisited and properly adjusted or added to. Going back and making more packs interact with each other, hell, even adding non-shitty palettes to various furniture and clothing items would go a long way when standards are so low.

But I don't trust EA with doing less than the bare minimum so a cancellation is probably a blessing in disguise for what's left of The Sims' legacy.

Played Sims 4 for the first time in my life about two days ago. I've been a fan of the series since playing the Sims 2 as a kid in the mid 2000s (holy shit that was 20 years ago). Also played Sims 3 and enjoyed it although I really hate the faces in that one. My first impression is how weirdly sterile and soulless it feels. Like it's a warped Silicon valley tranny's idea of what the world should look like if you get me. I tried to make a masculine Sim and it was really hard to make a guy who didn't look flamboyantly gay. There's nothing really wrong with the gameplay it all feels like the Sims, the construction and buying is all well done and good. It just doesn't feel the same.

There's also a certain charm with the in jokes and style of humor in the first 2 games that is just gone now.

The Sims Team did a Livestream of the Lovestruck EP, and it looks to be the same old bland shit that's been in past TS4 EPs already, resold for an additional $40.

So basically some more bullshit moral grandstanding. Polyamory is super advanced and enlightened, you guys, and not an excuse for Chads who would be getting pussy by the metric fuckload to just get pussy openly and utter cuckery for anyone else that decides to engage in it. Fuck's sakes, EA, Aella is poly and she's a literal hooker. And also crazy. Anyone with a functioning brain can tell you that nothing good comes from it for almost anyone involved.

I suppose it buffs the Sims. Used to be that your supers had to get the Catfish perk from a life aspiration to be able to be a scumbag who will fuck anything in sight. This was convenient because at high levels of charisma romance is a very fast way to build relationships. Now you get to just do that without the life aspiration complete. And no more moral qualms about your sims being the town bycicle and breaking hearts in the process, I suppose.

Man, Sims 4 is just Current Year Clownworld: The Game. And it's truer the more patches that come out.

Man, remember the Pleasant family in TS2? The dad was having an affair with the maid. If you let her stay over after her shift, the mom would come home early from work and catch them.

Don Lothario would leave Cassandra Goth at the altar because he wanted to sleep around.

The jealousy was such a fun way to cause drama, like killing your sims in the swimming pool "accidentally". Theres a lot I like better in TS4 than any of the other games, but at the same time a lot of what gave the older ones such charm is slipping away.

How tf did the Sims 2 have infinitely livelier and visually appealing maps twenty goddam years ago? What is this corporate HR onboarding process bullshit? This is so far beyond embarrassing. No wonder why they have to keep Sims 2 buried and hidden or else people would all switch over to it instead in an instant.

Fun fact: the career card that shows up for that particular instance is actually rigged so that the mom would always come home early no matter what you selected. If you didn't act fast, she would catch the affair in action.

I watched a video of Lovestruck, there's a random challenge to do 7 perfect dates in 7 days for a reality show, which was the subject of the video. If you succeed you get §25,000 and the heart bed.

It appears that poly shit isn't there by default. The streamer had multiple boyfriends and got caught cheating a couple times and the relationship suffered because of it. I was glad to see that, because I don't want poly shit to be normal.

It looks like when creating a date you can choose what type of date (get to know you, woohoo, romantic, etc), the location, and the goals? The video was sped up, so I didn't really get a good look at the goals thing, if it's goals. That's pretty cool IMO.

I checked out the new expansion pack today. Not only is monogamy the default, you can set it so that you aren't convinced to change your mind on the matter. Same with sexuality, while the default is bisexuality (as it's always been), you can tell it that you aren't questioning your sexuality at all. The sexuality thing has probably been there a while, I've just never explored that section if CAS. I wish you could make those settings always apply to every new Sim you create.

A nice touch in CAS is that it now lets you set hair/clothes/accessories to be the same for every outfit category with one click. That's really pretty cool.

I like the dating app, if you're a single Sim it can be challenging to find someone who you click with. I was able to get a boyfriend and have him move in in less than three days. Turn ons/offs is very well done, and the dating app will tell you if someone meets your turn on, or offs. Interestingly enough, once my boyfriend moved in with me, my Sim dropped how attractive she found him from attracted down to neutral.

Being able to customize the date and it's activities is really nice. I found it hard to get a date to gold, but that's a skill issue. There's a closet you can buy for your venues that lets you woohoo or try for baby.

Overall nothing exciting, but some nice slice of life stuff. I'm glad I don't pay for my DLCs as so far I don't think this is expansion pack price worthy.

So, I booted up my game tonight for the first time in a few weeks, excited to play, and I see that there's an update. I go to check the patch notes and see that of all things, they've changed the fucking relationship titles. Why?

Having them constantly go into the game and change needless things like this feels so violating. The woke shit is so overwhelming and needless. I try to ignore it, but it's so tiring. It's like having someone constantly entering your house when you're not there and rearranging all your shit.

I decided a while ago that I wasn't going to spend any more money on packs for this game, and this reinforces that for me. I despise the way the company manages it, and anything they're selling at this rate has an equivalent free mod out there that's just as good, and much more respectful of the people using it. I hate this dystopian, subscription-based world that we live in. Is there anyway to launch the Sims without using the EA app? I'd love to just disconnect from any more updates and other fuckery.

I've noticed everyone is just "partner" or "spouse" now instead of gendered titles, which I assume was done to please enbies

Look up andius. He has a fantastic updater app that downloads all the missing dlcs you don't have and all patches. You can mix legit and not games (I haven't tried this), play entirely offline, and it downloads over http so your isp won't get mad at you.

Sail the high seas with me fren.

Also, Zero's Sim Mods made a couple political removal mods to remove NPC pronouns and the stupid relationship label changes.

I'm looking for more mods like this, especially if I can find content hiders like I used in TS2 for retarded CAS items. I'd like to hide the more queer clothes and pride objects.

Edit: apparently you can hide objects and swatches through Sims 4 Studio. I know what I'll be doing later this afternoon.
