That's false, it's not exactly the update that does this; it's the update interacting badly with a mod (Pregnant sims can do more by sims4me). Take that mod out and the general pregnancies disappear. They're also not true pregnancies - no bellies, no progression, no kids; just the sim unable to do some actions because it's treated as pregnant.

The Sims Team did acknowledge this bug, but they make the usual stupid fluff working about it, saying it was related to "performance optimizations":

Some modders have said that EA may have actually deleted some of the pregnancy code, but EA doing something as stupid as that isn't a surprise, given how TS4 has been sitting on tons of spaghetti code for over a decade.

The game is so broken right now that even Anadius is reaching critical meltdown phase:

It's totally genius that EA found out that the REAL way to stop piracy is to make your game so broken that even pirates want nothing to do with them!

The Summerdream Family returns in the new neighborhood, but Puck and Bottom have been 86'd and were replaced with Mara, who was apparently from Makin' Magic.

And people are not happy about that change, from this week's SimSecret:

Apothecary Todd from Makin' Magic also appears in the game, but he's gay now:

Good thing 4 is an alternate canon, unrelated to the previous games'! Wait, did EA forget their own claims already?

EA has threw Sims lore and consistency out the window since The Sims 3, with things such as Sunset Valley being a prequel to TS1, and various TS2 Sims appearing in DLC neighborhoods with no sense of consistency either, i.e. Don Lothario getting isekai'd to a TS3 DLC World. To be fair about TS3 though, they did at least make some Sims their past-selves, i.e. the Summerdream Family in TS3 is just Oberon and Titania (before adopting Puck and Bottom), and the Pleasant Family in TS3 is Daniel and Mary-Sue Pleasant as newlyweds.

That's weird, I took the sims4me mod out and the pregnancy thingie vanished. EA deleting pregnancy code by accident is totally plausible, these fucks don't care. I'm gonna play this weekend and see if a normal pregnancy develops as usual.

Also, lore discussions about Sims are kind of meaningless, since the point of the game is to play the lives of everybody yourself.

this is the saddest fucking thing ever, how did they manage to fuck up a lore of a game that didn't even need one in the first place but devs put it in back then because they were passionate about it.

fucking hell, man.

they still left a small timeline of sorts between sims 1 and 2 because it was supposed to be a slightly large tie-in with simcity's world lore.
you red nigger.

Yes and no.

Yeah, you make your own stories/gameplay situations, but established characters have always been a big part of Sims popularity too. From the consoles to the PC.

That’s why people cared about the Bella Goth mystery in 2, or how characters like the Goths or Don/Caliente Sisters or Nervous Subject are so popular. When people say the Sims franchise had charm, this is one of the things they’re usually referring to.

I understand what you're saying, 2 is still my favorite, but 3 already deviated from the formula. Sims 4 is also explicitly a parallel timeline from the others - so the chars will be different, unfortunately. I do find getting rid of two characters to put an OC Donut Steel in place to be of pretty poor taste, but this is what is expected from Sims 4. And if the players accepted indian Goths, they will accept the new Summerdream girl - specially if she is some kind of gay character or a genderspecial.

Why EA thought that this needed a livestream reveal, and it won't come out for 4 more months, is them REALLY trying to stretch marketing on this decade-old game.
a decade old game that tons of people still play because there arent a lot of games on the market that fit the niche this game hits. there's inzoi, but that doesnt hit like sims.

Paralives will also be coming to Early Access in December, but the LONG ass development time, the artstyle, and it having more rainbow shit than inZOI (the game is made by Quebec Canadians FFS), which inZOI does also have its fair share of rainbow to it, also makes it another big question mark too.

The developers also made one of the hairy Black guys, Ayo "Ladildo", in the neighborhood families a nonbinary oaf.

For some reason, they made Spruce Almighty, a plantsim allegory to Pan, the wild nature god, an enby too. They also made him be divorced from MOTHER NATURE the sim. You can't make this shit up.

Current Sims 4 Nonbinary Tally: 21 sims made by EA
(I'm not counting Trashley Realperson, which is somehow a bunch of racoons pretending to be a sim.)

Current Sims 4 Tranny Tally: 13 sims made by EA

I tried to give TS4 a 3rd chance by pirating it after Life And Death came out. It ran like total shit on my good PC, corrupted my hard drive to extreme slowdown, and somehow caused my Bluetooth driver to fail so badly I had to do a factory reset to correct it. I used Anadius to do this, which is safe from malware as far as I know. There's just no fun or playing with life when it comes to TS4.

The Sims 3 development felt a lot more rough compared to The Sims 2 at least, and you can feel it with how earlier expansion packs have more content than later ones where they started to repeat the themes. Into the Future and Ambitions with Simbot/Plumbot and Time Machine. - and I've also always disliked the whole Isekai/Time Travel stuff in 3 too.

Part of it was that EA was starting to get too greedy midway of Sims 3 lifespan and less cohesive vision, and they needed an excuse to have 'varied looking' content down as the store took off, while early Sims 3 was made in the less greedy time.

Late 2000s EA was still a company that still respected devs enough to allow them put out bangers like Dragon Age/Mass Effect and Mirror's Edge - early Sims 3 was in that cohort.)
Then EA decided that they'd go down the microtransaction route. The expansion quality of Sims 3 went downhill in later expacs (Showtime was a big tipping point, it's about social media integration and pure Katy Perry-tie in cashgrab expac). Now you can compare how Sims 3 University is handled compared to Sims 2 University and earlier Sims 3 EPs (e.g. Late Night) in term of details.

It was also a mistake that the Sims 3 was initially conceived as '50 years before Sims 2' in term of Sunset Valley story, they ran into a problem where The Sims should be depicting a more contemporary life, with computer and stuff, and they can't do the 1950s setting for the whole game and expansion packs, so we end up getting time travel and continuity mess we ended up with.. (and so they can also sell more town packs)

But The Sims 3 was still an ambitious game with real amount of content and gameplay system in it, it's a good sandbox game with high customisability - but I'll admit it's less well designed and cohesive compared to 2..

Why EA thought that this needed a livestream reveal, and it won't come out for 4 more months, is them REALLY trying to stretch marketing on this decade-old game.

They can't make a more 'profit optimised - low effort, high return' Sims that can appeal to broadest audience (except us transphobes) than Sims 4. At that point you need to sell every furniture in game individually.

The Sims 4 was purely designed for business optimisation that's less about gameplay in mind, and it reached the equilbirium of cost/profit assessment. If they have to develop Sims 5, players will have to lose the amount of the expac content that were made for the previous installments - but what kind of innovation can make people care about Sims 5 even make when Sims 4 was no longer about innovation?

Making a new game and hope players jump into it was possible in Sims 1-3 era because each game offered something new in core system enough for the 'waiting period' for expacs to be worth it. What Sims 4 offered wasn't gameplay system, but a disney cartoony look to characters to have the widest appeal, gameplay being easy and unbalanced because the 'target audience' don't care about actually playing the game anyway, they just want to dress up, and it being able to run on absolute potato - while cutting corners and old gameplay elements off so everyone can buy and play it.

There's no major gameplay innovation, Sims 4 was made to specifically marketed to Sims 2 audience who didn't jump on 3 due to bugs and performance problems, and youtuber aggressive marketing to reach new generations who never touched the old games.

Sims 4 has to keep living on its legacy of having a lot of fluff 'content' via sheer amount of DLCs

I don't know how can you expect Sims 5 anyway? Don't say 'make it like Sims 2 and 3 combined and has multitasking of 4 and bigger town, gradual aging, more complex interactions, etc. Because that meant real costly programming effort, while they can just sell more Sims 4 kits for the same amount of profit... and complex game = 'good computer needed', So you can't have people playing the game on netbooks.

Though I'm curious of the imaginations of people here, what can EA realistically do if they want to make Sims 5?

I don't give Paralives much chances to succeed, it'll appeal to the woke demographic and it will be easier to play for some. But it has that dull flat corporate design look that many hate. It's like one big diversity poster. It'll fizzle out quickly, and the developers made too many promises.

Fuck it up more somehow? More kits?

Honestly I don't even think it takes all that much to have decent shaders (i.e. even some online browser games are decent-looking), I think it has to be some art director imposing their vision onto the game.
Maybe I'm overthinking but I remember that a few years ago the Paralives devs were caught up in drama after they kicked out some mentally ill bitch who was specificlaly in charge of shaders. She said she got terminated suddenly and didn't have time to explain to the remaining devs how her shaders work or train a new person. So maybe that's why the shading looks so shit, idk.

Dragon Age started out development before the EA buyout, and Mirror's Edge came out during that weird period where EA actually allowed their devs to make something unique, which also gave us Dead Space. Mind you, we only ever got the two IPs, and EA proceeded to kill them off just as quickly.

Can't really blame them for BioWare's fall from grace, all EA really did was keep giving the faggots at BioWare more rope to hang themselves with.

EA had a reputation for being greedy long before the late 00s, but I do agree that they got especially bad during that period.

If they have to develop Sims 5
Can they even do that? Not from a financial standpoint, mind you, but purely based on the ability of their workforce to make the game.

I recall them outright saying they lack the expertise to make a proper sequel to Sims 4, hence why they've bolting on more and more shit on the crumbling codebase of Sims 4.

While some fans have expressed disappointment the game isn’t going to the traditional sequel game route with a “The Sims 5,” Miele maintains this is for the best for the larger community of Simmers.

“What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years,” Miele said. “We put out over 85 content packs over the last 10 years on ‘The Sims 4,’ and so resetting that is not player friendly and not a good idea for our community.”
This is such a retarded excuse to keep parading 4's corpse for more moneys.

Ok, so confirmed, they can’t do it.

I don’t understand why they can’t hire experienced coders and get the nose rings and prolapses out of the way?
Seriously, where are the coders of before? This seems like an industry-wide problem, and I don’t get where they’ve all gone to the point that we’re losing the ability to make games.
