Updated the OP with the information about JammaVrc and 2chen that @Relinquish compiled, as well as a bit about how there is now a general VRChat thread on 2chen, which should fucking terrify you.
Thank you @Sprate Header for making this thread which has been long, long overdue. I've had first-hand experience with the rabbit-hole which is VRChat and was baffled to learn that to this day no one attempted to make a proper thread here about the game, the developers and the community surrounding it.
What was once a niche and fringe experimental chatroom game featuring virtual reality capabilities as the main attraction has turned into one of the most vile breeding grounds of degeneracy online. Honestly, Roblox has nothing on VRChat in the kind of damage it can inflict on people - both to minors and lonely, impressionable young adults.
Surely, having a platform that openly fosters minors and the absolute worst sexual deviants under one roof with no tangible separation is a great idea that won't ever cause any trouble, right? The way the community is set up right now is just a disaster waiting to happen - I am surprised that it lasted this long without any massive grooming scandal, because that shit is absolutely imminent. Mark my words.
To this day the developers cannot make up their mind whether they want to have kids as their target demographic (thus the cutesy presentation) or being Second Life on steroids with it being the hot-spot for virtual hook-ups, which is a fact the developers won't openly admit or discuss, but is very much an (extremely) open secret and one of the main sources of income, that is when they're not getting huge investor deals that they spend on frivolous things like leisure trips to Japan and whatnot.
Also, if you haven't seen the type of people VRChat employs, here's a little sneak peak for you all:
There's also the typical case of the developers and their friends being a thightly-knit group which lives in their own bubble, completely detached from the vast part of the game's community, catering with update content mostly to the interests of their own (unless they do something to piss everyone off), but I won't bore you with that.
Also, I'm not sure if this trivia was mentioned previously, but the VRChat's "Head of Community" guy is someone originating from 4chan /vg/'s "Virtual Reality General" thread.
Speaking of the community... I'm sure quite a few people have checked the game out (at least when it was yet to develop the stigma of being coomer and freak central) and most will be done with it after an hour or so, but those who stick around are usually the ones who will inevitably fall down the aforementioned rabbit-hole. It takes not even a few minutes to find yourself in a public lobby with people using grotesque pseudo-realistic looking humanoid avatars with a combination of piercings, tattoos and other accessories that could only be described as an edgy 13 year old boys' wet dream. The user in question will most likely be discussing things like alcoholism, drug use, virtual sex or any other kind of vices a person of such caliber might be interested in. The game is indeed dangerous not only to kids but also to young impressionable adults as I have personally seen people turn from your average Joes into sissy-hypno femboy boykissers in the matter of months. Just look at /trash/'s /vrlg/ threads if you want to know just how far this shit goes.
people who unironically spend hours upon hours of their day just sitting in front of a VR mirror, staring at themselves (or rather, their avatar), in a weird, creepy, pseudo-dysmorphic display of antisocial narcissism.
Anyways, here's YouTuber UrghBla joining the official VRC-sponsored "Trans Academy" world earlier this year and immediately running across a 26-year-old cuddling with a 13-year-old, which he was kicked and called a transphobe for saying was fucking weird:
Virtual groomer haven, VRChat is celebrating pride month by promoting "Trans Academy" - a group within the game meant for indoctrinating gullible children "providing a safe and educational space for anyone who identifies as trans or trans-adjacent". Oh, and they also promote Trans Lifeline within their virtual world. Steam Announcement | Archive
This is not the first time VRChat has openly promoted this organization:
...and by me saying they promote Trans Lifeline I mean yes, THAT Trans Lifeline:
This is literally the first thing you see when you enter the "Trans Academy" world in VRChat, can't make this shit up.
There are some... colorful individuals definitely worth looking into, like a specific lolicon user well-known in certain circles, who's been ban-evading to the point where he now has over several hundred (not an exaggeration) accounts permabanned. I'd be happy to provide whatever knowledge I've gathered over the years.
Oh boy finally I've been waiting for someone to make a thread like this.
4chan's VRChat group (VRG) is filled to the brim with Schizos, Trannies, 30 year olds reliving their Highschool years.
There is so much hilarious shit in the Trash Thread on a daily basis, constant meltdowns, drama, infighting and so much more, I highly recommend people to dig through the threads, and even better they archive each thread too.
Basically he is this 30 year old guy who started playing VRChat a few years back.
He runs an instance called "Tipsy Tuesday" where everyone on Tuesday nights get wasted and have "sex" (mutual masturbation) with each other in anime avatars.
From what I can tell, his wife left him of something like 5 to 10 years because he wouldn't stop playing this game and would rather talk to people in it than his own wife and now he is dating some guy from this community.
There are so many more colorful characters like him.
I think the most interesting one is this guy called "Kuiwa"
Apparently he used to be quite normal, but went down the rabbit hole of masturbating and getting high, constantly "gooning" to the point where he had a schizophrenia attack on the way back from an IRL meetup they had (yes....it's exactly what it sounds like), and ending up getting himself locked up in another countries asylum for 3 months.
Then a few months ago, he was gooning on stream and was so loud that his roommates could hear it, ended up with him getting a noise complaint and being locked up in another asylum that he somehow managed to escape from and went straight back to getting high and masturbating in VRChat on stream.
The only good thing to come out of VRC was Syrmor and the rest of the faggots using it need to get laid or neck themselves. Outstanding OP so far, @Sprate Header
@Sprate Header
kino thread so far man good job. Have you looked into the VR Trans Academy as well? They claim to have over 16000 members and their server is an open goon den with minors and open Q&A panels for Voice Feminization Training lol. There's interviews you can look through.

Some CHUD was forced out after mocking them and pointing out that there are clearly open pedos there using classic pedo rhetoric where a 13 year old was immediately found on the server eg. Muh maturity levels tho!

Updated the OP with information on "Bubblebowl Technologies", an "ironically" degenerate trolling group that tricks children into microwaving their VR headsets and retards into eating cat shit (among many other horrifying things).
I'm also now planning a section about Trans Academy and other aspects of troon shit on VRC.
Read the new section, and jesus fuck, why can't zoomers just be normal trolls? They always do sadistic shit as if they'll seem like "le ebic troll" for harming (often literally) retarded children. That video of them fucking with that asian kid just hurt my soul, man.

People like to talk about how the future will be like 1984 or Brave New World, but with the direction Zoomers are heading it's gonna end up looking more like A Clockwork Orange.
I know I'm supposed to pretend to be outraged, but I really loved the bubblebowl trolling, aside from the shit-eating. This isn't a "Zoomers are so heckin' evil" thing. This is was 2000s trolling by Millennials was like at times, too. Most trolls of any generation are going to stick to in-game trolling because it's very logistically simple, but it's not like nobody was capable of this stuff until now.
I'll be on the lookout for the return of these guys.
Anyways, the VRChat polling about its effect on players was sort of surprising. With so many of these people, I'd expect them to lie and pretend that they are happier now that they use VRChat like trannies do, but I guess it's so obviously a drain on their mental stability that they can't even deny it.

I'd agree if they weren't specifically targeting children. Also, you say "aside from the shit-eating", but the presence of that at all is one of the main reasons I don't think they should just be laughed off. I don't trust a group that engages in that shit to be all above-board; that's indicative of something seriously wrong with someone. Pranknet tricked a hotel clerk into drinking piss, they turned out to be pedos. MaximilianMus tricked JMAA into eating shit, Max turned out to be a pedo. Just don't be surprised when the new shit-eating enthusiasts on the block that are already targeting children don't turn out to be any different.
While I'm thinking about it, VRChat has a lot of weird terminology that is commonplace for users but is completely foreign to anyone who hasn't played it. I thought I'd make a little list of a few of the more common ones for Kiwis who are new to looking up VRC drama.
Public Avatar: An avatar that can be cloned or used by other players. These avatars can be favorited or displayed on an in-game pedestal for others to access. If you're using a public avatar, you can enable avatar cloning in the settings, allowing other users to equip it from your in-game profile, even if you didn't create the avatar yourself.
Private Avatar: A personal avatar uploaded to VRChat, flagged so only the user who uploaded it can equip it, regardless of their avatar cloning settings.
Avatar Performance: Avatars are categorized by performance tiers, ranging from "Excellent" to "Very Poor," based on how optimized they are for VRChat. This ranking is displayed in Unity before uploading. Performance issues like frame drops are usually caused by poorly optimized avatars. Developers have attempted to address this by setting stricter upload limits and adding a feature that (by default) does not properly render avatars with "Poor" or worse performance. If you want to see poorly made avatars as intended, you have to either manually change the graphical and safety settings, or you can make exceptions to always render certain users.
VRChat+ / VRC+: Similar to Discord Nitro or Twitter Blue, VRChat+ costs $10/month and offers benefits such as more slots for favoriting avatars and worlds, and the ability to upload a custom icon that will display next to the nameplate floating over your character. Every user with a custom icon on their nameplates is a VRC+ subscriber. If you see one, assume they are a heavy VRC user.
FBT (Full Body Tracking): This feature involves using a VR headset along with additional sensors attached to the user's wrists, ankles, hips, etc. If you see someone's avatar sitting/laying down in the air, they are probably using FBT. Seeing a user moving around despite their avatar standing perfectly still is also a dead giveaway for FBT, as there is an optional toggle to overwrite movement/walking animations with FBT on.
FT (Face-Tracking): This feature allows an avatar to mirror the user's real-life facial expressions. It's built into the Quest Pro hardware and can be used in VRChat with some effort and certain addons that have to be built into the model.
PC Quest users, Standalone Quest users, and Fallbacks/Imposters: There are two versions of VRChat: the standard PC version and the Oculus/Meta Quest version. This can be a bit confusing, so let me break it down:
The Quest headset is designed to be used as a standalone device without needing a PC, but it can't run standard PC apps. It essentially operates on a heavily modified version of Android, and games must be specially ported to it. VRChat supports cross-play between both versions, but world creators need to upload both a PC version and an Android version of their maps.
This dual-version requirement also applies to avatars. Avatars must be downgraded and adjusted to be visible to Quest users, but most users don't bother with this due to the strict file size and texture limits. If you don't create a Quest version of your avatar, Quest users will see you as a placeholder white robot. There was a time when it was common for Quest users to enter worlds and see nothing but robots because few people optimized their avatars.
To address this issue, the developers introduced "fallback" avatars. Users could choose from a pool of about 40 placeholder models, so if they didn't use an optimized avatar, Quest users would see the fallback avatar they picked instead. This wasn't a perfect solution but was better than seeing only white robots.
Later, the developers implemented "imposters." If you don't optimize your avatar, the server automatically generates a flat, low-poly version of it for Quest users (or for users who preemptively block poorly optimized avatars). While not a perfect conversion and causing issues with some models (blocky hips seems to be a common issue), this led to complaints about the unattractiveness of their avatars. lol
A couple of years ago, Quest headsets received an update allowing them to be tethered to a PC (ideally via a long USB-C cable), letting you use them with freely with almost any VR game already on PC. This is a popular choice among VRC users since it bypasses the Quest version optimization entirely, and the Quest doesn't require mounting external sensors in your room (like other VR headsets). There’s also now a version of the VRChat client on Google Play that utilizes the Quest assets.
“Visitors” over “Users”: You can play VRChat directly from Steam or the standalone Quest version without needing a VRChat account, but your username will include a string of numbers, and you will be flagged as a "visitor" until you create a VRChat account and link it to your Steam and/or Meta.
By default, VRChat's user safety tools disable many features on visitors' avatars for other players (e.g., the ability for others to see lights and sounds built into your avatar). If you want to use a custom avatar and have these features visible to others, you'll either have to convince them to manually reveal your avatar or suck it up and actually create a VRChat account.

Oh, that reminds me - VRC+ subscriptions can be gifted to others, so it is not uncommon to see people begging to be gifted VRC+. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there was (and there probably is) a market for favors being done in exchange for VRC+ gift subscriptions.
Came across a video talking about a VRChat user that goes by Ericirno. He is apparently known for recreating the Kmart department store in the game and also for being a creep.
