UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Not just any Canadian but Celine Dion. She's not even a singer either so much as a cat strangler. Every time I hear her my heart does its best to not go on.
In which case you probably don't want to know that they paid an estimated $2m+ for her to come and sing that song.

Daily Mail said she was being paid $1m herself but the Olympic organizers says she's doing it for free. Qualified version of "free" if so though as she gets a $25,000 per night hotel room (doesn't include snacks, etc), private jet for her and her children, and a dozen other things too numerous to list out.

Not sure what I think of this story. By which I mean yes, it is insane and needs to be stopped immediately but there’s so many layers of wtf here that I don’t know where to start
For just a few of the wtfs
This is the uk. You can’t just build hospitals and buildings, you need planning permission
Does it have a water supply?
No direct boat link to mainlsmd
It’s halfway between loch long (where we keep the nuclear missiles) and faslane (where the subs operate out of.)
They want to allow Muslims from all over the world to just wander in

This is just such a bizarre story. The guy himself is from Kuwait which isn’t classed as unsafe and actually owes his life to the uk who let him settle here (why oh why?) after Kuwait decided he was too insane

And today Tommy Robinson has been arrested* under the Terrorism Act [ X ], reportedly for screening his own banned documentary at yesterday's event.

I know very little about Tommy Robinson and he could be an opportunist grifter for all I know, but it sure is starting to look like he's a persecuted unfavorable. Which is to say: regardless the truth of the matter, the silly fuckers are building the man his own legend.

ETA: There is a protest on Downing Street, currently being livestreamed here.

* ETA 2: The Met deny it [ X ]. Quite the puzzler.

ETA 3: This posted yesterday suggests otherwise [ X ]. The social media monkeys must not be in the loop.

They really can't leave that man alone can they?

He founded the English Defence League which unlike the British Nationalist Party managed to draw in both Working Class and Middle Class support. "Suits and boots" as a Met officer once described it. And that is anathema to the British establishment. Large political change happens when the Middle Class and the Working Class start working together. That's how the French Revolution happened.

The BNP had a big stigma around it. The EDL was new and at the start not as tarnished. The media go into overdrive to show a bunch of savage yobs not to attack savage yobs but to make it untenable for Middle Class people to be seen to associate with the organisation.

He's not exactly some lily-white academic. I've seen him throw a (pretty good) punch. But yeah, they'll stitch him up every way they can because there's plenty for people to be angry about but humans require a person to gather around for it to crystallise into action. British establishment is very good at identifying those seeds before they grow too far and digging them out.

Not surprised. Tommy probably knew they'd try to find any sort of way to arrest him after the second rally so why not go out in a blaze of glory?

It's the stupidest thing the bobbies could've done though. While not on the same level of severity of course it brings to mind Trump being shot at that rally. Tommy's shown normies that there's strength in numbers - now they're putting it to use.

I think he’s a cunt but that doesn’t make it right that the British establishment have tried to crush him.

It looks like they were pretty lax with his placements in prison hoping that he’d get killed. I feel like a conspiracy theorist saying that, but they took less care in his safety, a high profile prisoner, than some creep with terabytes of cheese pizza would get.

If the Tories had ran on a platform of “don’t rape kids, don’t swamp the country with the third world” he wouldn’t exist in the public eye she they’d have won a land slide.

The establishment are sowing the wind, if they’re not careful they’ll reap the whirlwind.

He's a faggot who changed his name to sound more working class and wacks off Jews.

If the Met didn’t arrest him then who did? British Transport Police? It’s a really strange statement for them to say they didn’t arrest him. I suppose City of London have their own police but unless he was kicking off in Canary Wharf I don’t see that happening.

I don’t think the Security Services have power of arrest.

So who arrested him? Any more info on that? I’m worrying out of agencies with power of arrest?

I thought the glowies here usually had some copper from a force's CTU attached to them for this very reason.
If he was arrested by Special Branch wouldn’t that still be the Met?

The “we did not arrest” is really strange. “We cannot currently comment on” would have be safer.

This is quite strange.

Public order offences can be weird though, they might have detained him under that. It’s frightening the power the police have with that.

They can detain you, without arrest, under suspicion that you’ll commit one. Although a lot of the time who is a victim of that depends on who the Home Secretary is.

with every news story that comes out of that God forsaken isle i believe this more and more thoroughly.
is there any lower of scum on this earth then a British police officer? every time i ever hear about them or see them in a video they're always arresting a nun for praying in public or tackling someone for putting a sticker on a lamp post that slightly criticize the states invasion immigration policy.

do the British people treat these faggots like the worms they are? when they have family get togethers do they make it clear that they aren't invited because they're traitors? when they go out to the pub do the people around them heckle them and throw beer in their face for assisting in turning London into a mini Syria?

the job should be so toxic to your social standing that it should be impossible to find anyone willing to do it.

my guy, they ignore child rape gangs and arrest people for "misgendering" or carrying a Zelda toy. there's already no law or command they wont follow. even if there were bigger scum to replace them they wouldn't be doing anything different.

if we aren't going to punish people for being and assisting evil we should at least shame them for it.
the ""British"" government is begging for a civil war at this point.
