The most retarded part of the FNAF community is the obsession with ‘golden’ Freddy. Scott slaps down a depiction of an old rotted and yellowed animatronic suit in front of the camera, the playerbase decide to assume it’s made of gold, and then he now has to run with this and make that it’s official name.

The real funny part is that this fucking thing is like the lynchpin of the entire series and lore. Everything has to come back to this fucking golden retard, and you can’t even take it seriously cuz he’s called golden Freddy which is the stupidest thing ever. The series' lore is an absolute, unfixable mess. As stated, I can't imagine even Scott has all the answers anymore. Made even worse by the endless stream of books where he took the bitchmade stance of "Sort of canon but not really canon but not totally noncanon either" like pick a lane and stick to it. They're either canon or they're not. I wish the series would just get a big reboot at this point, I literally couldn't care any less about the lore being solved even if such a thing was actually possible.

Say what you want about FNAF but its truly a franchise built entirely by fans and creators, even more so than games like TF2 or Garry's Mod which are largely (if not entirely) community-sustained. Scott churned out the official material but YouTubers and their fans wrote the lore, named the characters, determined the locations. Really was remarkable to see people get so hyped up about solving something that, at the time, was pretty novel. Back in the day people were counting the number of buttons on an animatronic or how many chimes a clock made. Was really autistic but really a prime example of what the internet does best, which is connecting people.

There's a few main theories regarding golden Freddy. All are autistic. The main thing everyone is interested in right now is who's haunting the damn thing. Im not sure if me sperg dumping about the possibilities is derailing or not so I'll refrain.

I think what makes stuff like fnaf so appealing to children (and most importantly, spergs). Is how easy it is to make your "own" OC character recolor. Think of it like Sonic and the myriad of "[X] the headgehog" OCs.

Reading that actually unblocked a distant memory of mine: the days of FNAF Tumblr Artists.

Funnily enough, I don't remember FNAF having a ton of OCs, but it had an interesting case like it, which I like to call "persona character interpretations", like how most people remember Rebornica as the creator of "Purple Guy" Vincent rather than anything they ever posted.

I was having a sleepover with my best friends, I was laying on the floor, we all gathered around it and partook in the ritual of brightening the image to look for secrets, and it was the coolest thing ever. God dammit take me back.

Nothing else past the fourth game actually happened to me. And as far as how the game lore is, it may as well not have. What I want to know is what everything was ORIGINALLY meant to be, before all the retcons and Scifi shit. The original story has been butchered to hell, William is kind of Flanderized, ect.

Dudeee, that one time where Scott uploaded a completely blank black image that if you decided to bright up to reveal the Puppet for the first time still gives me the Goosebumps. Such a cool way to hide secrets. Makes me sad that other indie devs don't do stuff like this, it's either nothing or weird complex ARGs that only the most autistic would find enjoyable.

The videos by matpat were coming out as we got game teases, hints, lore, actual games, etc. Wendigoon's video came out within the last few years and after much of the games lore and high points have ended.

Dont blame you for not sitting through the million matpat videos but when they were coming out, mat was setting the whole fandom on fire again with speculations about lore. It's sort of "you had to be there"
