My kid is preschool-aged, and last week at her Planned Activity, an older child approached us and asked my kid's pronouns because, I'm guessing, she was wearing a dinosaur shirt (and hot pink shoes, but whatever). I was baffled. I sputtered out "uh, she's a her" because my kid has no idea what pronouns are. I would say "yeah, but next time!" but I honestly have no clue how to reply to these woke-ass children. The kid sounds highly obnoxious, but I would try really hard to have some empathy for him. He's obviously parroting things he's been fed by adults who should know better than to inculcate their controversial beliefs upon someone who is too young to engage with them critically. Regardless of what your specific beliefs are (about anything, not just gender ideology) it's pretty terrible, even dangerous, to train a child to think exactly as you do without question. It is not developmentally appropriate or ethical to ask a child to shoulder the psychological burden of certain highly complex, emotionally fraught topics, which is why, until recently, we as a society did our best to shield children from them.
As annoying as the interaction sounds, the child didn't do anything wrong, and he almost certainly had good intentions. Our ire should be reserved solely for the adults in his life who put self-interest and political talking points above his welfare.
