UK 'Major incident' after reports of stabbing and 'number of casualties' in Southport

Police have declared a "major incident" in Southport after reports of a stabbing and a "number of reported casualties".

Police said a knife had been seized and that a man had been detained but urged the public to avoid the area near Hart Street.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in Southport following a major incident this morning, Monday 29 July.

"At around 11.50am, we were called to a property on Hart Street to reports of a stabbing.

"There are a number of reported casualties and more details will be confirmed when possible.

"Armed police have detained a male and seized a knife. He has been taken to a police station.

"Please avoid the area while we deal with this incident. There is no wider threat to the public."

My word, how did I predict what the police would say after people took the obvious bait that already made it to this thread quite a while ago?

Basic pattern recognition is not difficult. Situation causes massive public anger and outcry at grassroots level. Retarded claim circulates on social media with dodgy source at best. People, some of them literally with beer cans in hand as shown in the videos, believe the claims and decide to vandalise a mosque with no fucking connection at all to any of this shit. Media and police already ready since they too can read social media are primed and good to go with "racists attack blameless Muslims" and now they have their new headlines and all the dead children can be ignored again because the oh so scary Nazis are out. Fear, terror, they're so much more dangerous.

People need to stop taking obvious bait. I considered attending the vigil myself but it was blatant from the social media posts around it what was going to happen. The vast majority were there out of genuine emotion and to show their support. Some people however went with the intent to turn it into a riot. This thing could only have been more of a trap if cheese was being served and anyone who went there to kick off, especially while getting pissed, is an idiot who's done exactly what Labour, the police and the media needed them to do.

It's manipulative, it's scummy, it should be obvious what was coming and it played out in depressing fashion. The double standards as @AssignedEva and @Bog-standard Poster points out above are blatant. But it's also sadly predictable. I could write half of tomorrow's headlines already.

It's actually a very very interesting set of circumstances right now:

1. The police have been underfunded for such a long time that they're incapable of defending large flashpoints in multiple areas
2. The prisons are so full they're releasing MORE of them, so the threat of going to prison no longer affects the average Brit
3. Labour, having come into power after 14 years of Tory austerity decided to smugpost and say that austerity is going to keep on going.
4. Literally straight after promising billions to Ukraine and co. Because other people are worth more when it comes to spending money.
5. The entire generation of kids who have never been able to secure anything more than minimum wage shit jobs, NOTHING and I repeat NOTHING is scarier than the disenfranchised youth who own nothing and have nothing to lose.
6. Immigration is no longer just affecting the poverty tier classes: the fruit pickers, the fishermen etc. Uni students are discovering for the first time in their lives that immigration might actually be... bad? After they're competing for entry level jobs against some of the brightest minds in Europe.
7. Islam has hit a certain population point where it no longer cowers in the corner and instead kicks off with violent protests (aka the entire Gaza shitshow)
8. Towns and cities have spent 20 years getting more and more 'cultured' and people are starting to make the connections between public services being desecrated and Asif bringing his Bongo sister/wife in on a tourist visa and shitting out 30 scopes.

It has all the makings of being something too big to actually extinguish if it does kick off.
