It's funny looking at the natlan backlash since they never complained about Arlan from HSR being the only playable dark skinned character
On top of what RIPRhongoBongo has said, HSR's current worlds (equivalent to Genshin's nations) do not have inspirations in countries that have a typically higher population of dark-skinned people of color. The only worlds so far are the following:
  • Herta Space Station: A space station that has the only dark-skinned character (Arlan) but has no cultural inspiration that I'm aware of.
  • Jarilo-VI: A wasteland of ice that, given a lot of characters' names, presumably has Slavic/Eastern European roots.
  • Xianzhou Alliance: Very rooted in Chinese culture and inspiration. The HSR equivalent of Genshin's Liyue.
  • Penacony: A dreamscape that's invited everyone across the galaxy to partake in a festival. Like Herta Space Station, the world doesn't seem to have a cultural inspiration.
There are characters that are outside of these featured, such as Acheron (seems to have Japanese inspiration) and Boothill (fandom in-joke that he's an American. I can believe it). The closest character we have to being a dark-skinned POC (in SJWs' eyes) in origin is Aventurine, with his story having similarities to Romani people's history.

If HSR comes out with a region or a character that takes more inspiration from those cultures, such as Genshin taking inspiration from the Middle East or Latin America, then they might receive backlash in the same vein as Genshin does.

Regardless, there's still a decent amount of race swapped and redesigned HSR characters that I often see in the SJW Art and Extremes thread.
I'm not gonna dig for a lot of these but you get the picture with these two characters alone. Natasha is from that region based on Eastern Europe, by the way, so like. Why is she black.

It doesn't help that MiHoYo doesn't listen to whiners from the Western world because the Chinese government tells MiHoYo what to do, social media has no power.
It's not like it affects the company in any negative way. Half the people participating still use HoYo characters as their avatars and usernames while complaining about whatever inconsequential flavor-of-the-month bullshit's got them riled up anyway.

Brazilian Tumbrina admits to being white, complains about being represented.

Boycott hoyoverse, please.

I used to be a big genshin impact lore buff, i played, i read, i was on forums, i made fanart, and then i was deeply disrespected by the game itself (this post is about natlan)

I am brazilian and i follow a religion named candomblé. Long story short, its from yoruba people who were sent to brazil as slaves, then went through a big process of spreading out to not just black people, but light-skinned people of lower classes like my family. We believe in the creation by Olorum, the power of Axé, and the Orixás.

Natlan, as of now, has two characters named Iansan and Ororon. These names come from not just the yoruba predecessors of candomblé, but also the religion itself, the Orixá deities Iansã and Olorum.

My religion, my deities. My mother's deities. The statuettes in my house. Their names are recycled cheaply to be used trivially. Never have we of candomblé ever gotten mentioned by AAA games or films that give such attention to detail like Genshin does, and we are disrespected. Our Gods are used like rags for someone's profit to be thrown away, washed out. They do not convey our beauty, our grit, our wonder, they do not convey us but they profit from us.

People love to tell us that it is just a game, but think again: games are not entitled to disrespect us just because of their nature. We are entitled to complain, to scream, because this is cruelty. You brutalize our image, butcher our names, for what?

When I was younger, I used to look at games with religious imagery very curiously. It was always weird to see the faith of the people I know be used for aesthetic reasons or just because it looks cool. The same has now happened to me, but times worse. People will say anything to justify this mockery and throw excuses to keep playing the product of a corporation that won't ever understand what it means to be us.

Boycott, complain, scream, because I will do it too. I regret the time I invested in playing, in reading, in watching, in dedicating myself to something that would never do me justice. It is not expensive to change a character's name, not even talking about the model. I don't plan on re-entering the fandom while it still lies unaware of the gross source material's true colors. Candomblé is not mythology, it's faith. We are alive. We have existed for centuries and will continue to grow, despite the challenges we face.

This is the most melodramatic, long winded rant I've seen so far.

This person does not live in a favela, you know, where REAL problems are. They probably don't even know poor people exist

You'd think if this person cared so much about their religion, they'd post about it more or spend time off of Tumblr.

An anon rightfully called them out, they ended up sperging out about how their faith was "disrespected".

Interestingly enough, their favourite nation when they were playing was Sumeru. I remember a similar boycott happening with that over misued names and the like.

Then again, everything started to make sense when they said that they're afraid of Reddit becaue they are autistic.

As a subhuman weeb, whose introduction to anime was through Space Runaway Ideon. I never understood the appeal of Genshin Impact nor the Mihoyoverse.

To me and many of my associates in the anime/manga community. It was that one series that made a lot of money and no one understood why.
A game with a bright and colorful cutesy aesthetic and paint-by-the-numbers conventionally attractive anime characters came out during the pandemic when most of the target audience had nothing better to do. It was also being touted as a "free-to-play BOTW clone" when everyone was sucking that game's dick off too.

It was pretty much what everyone jumped ship to once they got tired of Animal Crossing, and then they wouldn't stop talking about it online so then everyone else started playing it. Now a lot of them are stuck with sunk cost and parasocial relationships with fictional characters. That's also why their boycotts never work.

I got back into it because it's a free and fun open world game with cutesy characters. When I was stuck at home during the pandemic, spending hours playing it cured my boredom and was a relief from all the negative shit going on. If you ignore its fandom and focused only on the gameplay/lore, it's a nice experience.

Honkai Impact 3rd had a playboy-style bunny girl event for their third anniversary (2021), but it was not available on the China server. Chinese players got angry at being excluded and made torture/death threats online towards Mihoyo employees. One man broke into Mihoyo headquarters with a knife to kill the two CEOs and then kill himself, but he was arrested before he could reach them. Mihoyo removed the bunny girl event from all servers and gave out free pulls to the CN server as an apology.

As of recent, Hoyoverse (same company, different name) tried to fix a "bug" of the hydro DPS character Neuvillette where he spins a full 360 degrees really fast with high camera sensitivity, making him the strongest AOE damage dealer in the game. Chinese players threatened to report them to the CCP for fraud, and doxxed several employees.

They reversed the fix, apologized in less than a day and gave everyone 10 pulls worth of primogems. I think they are scared of their CN playerbase more than anyone else.
This shouldn't surprise anyone. CN makes up half of mobile revenue alone. Some gacha game is hard carried by chinese. Also there's a thing attempted assassination of hoyo ceo by deranged chinese fans over honkai impact 3rd global anniversary. Hoyo is rightfully afraid of CN because CN can support a game and at the same time they can go even more deranged than westerner.
