@Rob Wolchek @Gimmighoul Celeb and e-celeb threads are the coal that is killing the Farms. They attract airheaded normie phoneposters who think the internet is sirial bidness rather than a light-hearted place to make fun of random weirdos online. These threads run counter to the spirit of Kiwi Farms since they enforce conformity with the wider social order and treating celeb garbage as important, whereas any good Kiwi Farms thread is contrarian in nature and/or about a small-scale incident that at most 2000 people know about. Celebs and e-celebs also tend to have lots of reputational armour from being famous that make them more milquetoast people of interest rather than the IRL sitcom characters all lolcows should be.

One could argue that Kiwi Farms makes e-celebs themselves.
At one point Chris-Chan was not very well known, he only became as mainstream as he did due to the Barb incident, but even before that depending on the communities you were in or the friends you had, there was a solid chance someone had at least heard of him prior. I think people forget that the late 2000s into the 2010s was the height of "cringe culture", many people took the time to seek out the next internet weirdo and their shenanigans to make compilation videos from the weirdo goldmines, so that the normies sitting on the fence of even being considered "normie" among their OWN peers could share these videos and laugh at them together. The more terminally online you were, the more you sunk into rabbit holes like ED and CWCki.

Which speaking of such a phenomenon, (slight PL time) it's reminding me of the fact that my own normie friends back when I was still in H.S. were the ones who introduced me to Filthy Frank. While my friends did find the concept hilarious, I seemed to be the only one who was autistic enough to understand the significance of FF's content and how it was shaping the internet of that time. Most of them moved on from the "Weeaboos" video, while I kept up with the later uploads.

The Madonna thread, I think, is a good counterexample. At least, I've never seen any discussion of Madonna online that played out as well as the thread here. Maybe you've got a point too. I dunno. It's just that the quality of conversation on this site isn't really comparable to other places.

I realize this is an absolutely crazy thought, but have you ever considered simply not clicking threads that you don't like or aren't interested in? Depending on which section of the site you're in, the "typical poster" changes significantly. They're not exactly the most intriguing threads to me generally, either, but it's nice to have a space to discuss things when something big happens. Having a record of the abhorrent behavior of certain famous people over a long period of time is also something that you're not going to get many other places.

Additionally, to me the biggest problem with users on the site is edgelords in their teens with double digit IQ scores versus "normie phoneposters". The reputation of the site alone presents a rather significant bar in terms of your average person signing up.

I follow that doctrine, but that doesn't change the fact that the site is decaying. The 'cuck may have a few threads that are worth clicking on, but that doesn't change the fact that most threads and boards are not.

Does an e-celeb have to have a certain popularity/follower count to even be considered an "e-celeb"? There are so many dumb factors and I really don't think it matters at this point anymore. If they're airing their dirty laundry, being retarded, and it's funny enough then who gives a fuck.

Can you cite any examples of what you're talking about? The only one that fits in my mind is the Trump thread, and that one is more of a special containment thread that had to be made post 2020. Any of the other celeb threads usually have a Farms-specific edge to them.
