That's not generally true. From the Normans on they tended to inter-marry with commoners on a fairly regular basis, for whatever reasons, and that hasn't changed for the most part. There are some families that are inbred, but even the Windsor family bush has brought in fresh blood from time to time. None are anywhere near as bad as the hapsburgs, for instance.The British nobility were inbred as fuck
The point is that the country lost its first sons at every level of society; the ones who would generally take over the occupation of their fathers and train up the next generation. What we ended up with was an aristocracy of spares. Feckless, useless, selfish cunts who lived large while the older brother took on all the responsibility. Imagine an entire upper class of Prince Harrys suddenly coming into an inheritance they never expected. It explains a great deal about the direction the country took after the wars.
