My unit had 2 battalions take over for their duties when we deployed)
People who were actually in his unit mention that he was quick to try to go to overseas operations. Nothing nasty like Western Germany or Suez or Turkey, where he might have to work, but more shooting for stuff like Crete, Cyprus, stuff that's primo stuff.
He made it to the rank of E-8 (Master Sergeant/First Sergeant) before re-enlisting for 6 years (his supporters claim he reupped for only 4... this is important) and going to Sergeant Major's school.
Now, we need a little crash course in something...
A Sergeant Major is an E-9. So is a Command Sergeant Major. A Command Sergeant Major is a Sergeant Major with a command slot, like the Battalion Sergeant Major slot putting him in a command slot, where having a Dick Handler Shop slot would only make him a Sergeant Major.

For a Nasty Girl, this means getting everyone together, inspecting everything, training, getting replacements, getting full accountability, getting troops from other Nasty Girl units that aren't deploying. This is a process that can take MONTHS even for an Active Duty unit.
His unit was notified in EARLY 2005 that the battalion was facing a deployment within the next two years. Weeks after that, they were notified they were on the short list and the work began.
Walz, who was seeking a Congressional seat, filed his retirement paperwork AFTER telling the Army that he would stick with his unit.
He retired, BEFORE his commitment to stay in X number of years after CSM school and to stay in his command position for X years. This forced the unit to get another CSM. This can result in efficiency problems and is considered a major problem. The man who took over for Walz has called him a piece of shit and a coward for years.
His unit then deploys. Interestingly enough, his unit was NOT allowed to speak about him at all.

His command, all the way up to the State Level, put him where he was best, and that was on Rear Detachment keeping everything rolling smoothly. An example of how good he was? When his unit deployed in 2003, he got his Nasty Girl brigade body armor and humvee armor inside of 3 weeks, at a time where there was shortages of it in ACTIVE DUTY. When his unit deployed in 2006, he got his unit new vehicles in under a month to replace the ones that got left behind their last deployment. He would always be there when someone wounded landed, with their family member, and make sure they got treated at Walter Reed. When someone's kid needed surgery or someone's wife had to be hospitalized, he made sure the troop got home but in the meantime he made sure the dependent got the best care possible. He made sure NOBODY from his unit fell through the cracks.
He was admired by his fellow Nasty Girls because HE NEVER LET THEM DOWN.

When Iraq invaded Kuwait and made motions at invading Saudi Arabia, my unit threw an advance party together that got to Saudi Arabia the first week of August. The rest of the unit penny-packeted in till late October, when the whole unit arrived. Now, we deployed without a First Sergeant or a Sergeant Major. Both slots had been empty for over six months. The big one was our CO. He was slated to be replaced, having been our CO for almost 2.5 years when the standard at the time in Europe was 1 year. (It was bullshit. Unmarried enlisted were stuck in that shithole for 3 years, officers got to leave after 1 year)
He had his orders. He should have started clearing the week after the advance party left. His wife and kids had already gone forward to his new posting, which was eagerly awaiting him.
Instead, he contacted PERSCOM and the Pentagon and told them that he was willing to stay in place rather than leave his men behind because he felt that it would jeopardize unit performance and morale. He coordinated with the unit he was supposed to be going to and ensured they got a new CO.
He did another year as our CO, in charge of a bunch of retards.
Do you see the difference here?

There's also the possibility of some backstabbing or just someone intentionally dropping the ball. Remember that there were a lot of people in the DNC that didn't want Kamala to be the candidate in the first place and just because the average Democrat supporter will vote blue no matter who, doesn't mean that the powerful party insiders go along with that stupidity.

Not really. I'm guessing the TLDR is that Walz used a technicality to be considered National Guard, but didn't actually do his due diligence to serve military time when it was needed. His tenure is a fluke not just because he wasn't deployed, rather he abandoned his men for a cushy position when they needed him the most.

No, or at least not anything remotely substantial that would impact her campaign. It was just a grift to get people to tune in to their stream or click on their article, usually while they advertised some kind of product in the background.

The funny thing about this stolen valor thing is the dems did it to themselves. They were the anti-war party and could have easily sold Waltz refusing to go to Iraq as a good thing. But 2+ years of support our troops and ukraine good they are backed into a corner.
